Functions with names read or write are often used in various systems and frameworks even stdlib.
Maybe it's better to rename these functions to something more specific and tolerant?
For instance uart_transmit and uart_receive.

I've got this issue while trying to port this library to ESP32 MCU and ESP-IDF framework. There is a function write somewhere in the ESP-IDF so the code is not working right.
Maybe it is also the ESP-IDF issue but I guess that it could be the problem on other platforms.
