We should come up with a better way for users to change their setup. One possibility is a more involved batch script that let users specify how their driver works and how they'd like to connect and edits the source based on that at install time. Or, just better structuring for everything.

Although there's lots of room left, all our constants and configuration variables are taking too much space in memory. Would using #define help?

Currently, a gradient or blink command is run after the timeout period. But that command should stop running (color should change to a steady #000000) after new activity is detected, even if the new activity is an invalid command or an input like "debug" that does not stop the current activity by being run.

debug is too granular; either you get a couple lines of feedback or details on every single function that's run. Implement a verbosity setting so that we can be selective about debugging information without turning debug off and putting Serial.println(s everywhere.

They seem to activate unreliably. Adding a disable is not a fix.
