discord-vc-notification's Introduction

discord-vc-notification

Notice: due to the limitation of machine resource, hosting the application yourselves is recommended at the moment.

First, register an application on Discord Developer Portal and obtain a bot token.

Install docker or Docker Desktop (on Windows/Mac), then run

docker run DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN=<your bot token> docker.io/fumieval/discord-vc-notification:0.4.2

To enable notifications, add a line to the topic of the text channel as follows:

vc-notification: [NAME OF THE VOICE CHANNEL]

Specify a space-delimited list of channel names to monitor.

Example

vc-notification: General

When someone joins the Voice Channel General, the bot posts a message to the text channel.

You can add "first" keyword like vc-notification: General first to suppress notifications when anyone is in the channel already.

discord-vc-notification's Issues

Bot is not working .. maybe my mistake.

Hi
The bot is not responding
I have a voice channel called General
I've used ( vc-notification: General )
in the topic of the text channel and nothing works

image

Docker error

So I installed docker and ran the code provided, but I get this error:

docker: invalid reference format: repository name must be lowercase.

Any idea?

More features

  • optional to notify ( join / leave / switch )
  • change the message to be 1 line only instead of 3 ( delete footer the time is same as bot send msg - and we can drop the avatar + name first line )

simple and amazing bot .. thanks a lot

Notifications

The bot tend to notify people whenever someone is muting their microphone/headphones, it dosnt do it all the time but for the most part it does, which is odd, any fixes?

Unverified Bot

Is this bot still being hosted?
It is currently unverified and can't be added to servers.

No Notification when People are switching Channels

First of all thank you for the Bot (:
But like the Title says he will send a Message when the Person joins the Voice channel "fresh" but when he is already connected to a nother voice Channel and is switching to the sepcified VC, the Bot wont send a message.

Bot isn't working

Hey there, I understand the bot may be overwhelmed and you may not be managing it anymore, but is there a way to set this up on my own PC to monitor my discord channel? I'd like for it to be running at all times for our groups.

Bot not sending messages to text channel

Hi,

I tried doing the setup
vc-notification: General
and the bot doesn't seem to want to type to the general voice channel
Not sure what else to say.

Thanks for making this bot though. I was missing the Mumble feature where it'd notify via tts when a user joins or leaves a voice channel

Notify only when the first user joins a channel

Hey there! I absolutely love the idea of this bot. I was wondering if it's possible to tweak it, or allow to turn on a setting that ONLY notifies when someone joins an empty channel. For instance, Channel A has no users, but User 1 joins the channel. I'd like for the bot to message a specific channel and say "User 1 has started a voice chat in Channel A" and don't send subsequent notifications unless the channel is empty again and someone rejoins.

This is helpful to reduce spam and will help users know when people sign into the voice channel. I may be just sitting around the house and get a notification that someone started a voice chat and I may want to join them.

Thanks in advance!

part message ???

Not sure if there is a part message available as well as a join message and I'm simply overlooking it. But... if not, you might consider adding a part message as well.

Here's is how I'm thinking that would be useful. I have a voice channel that is listen only that has a bot that plays various content 24/7. The vc-notification bot seems like it would be useful to help members get a sense for who is actually listening to the content. So let's call the channel I post the vc-notifications into "the log channel". If a member looks at the log channel and sees someone comes in once, that tells them something. If they also see they come in every day, that tells them more (ie, the person is active), but a person could just enter and exist the VC every day quickly. But if the log channel shows the person enters, stays for 30 minutes and then parts, it indicates the person is probably sticking around to actually listen to the content. So, without a bot message indicating when someone parts, it's tough for members to tell the difference between the 2nd & 3rd type of person.

Enjoy life!

PS... the link to profile change was really helpful as you can see in the above scenario. Once a member sees someone in the log channel they might want to reach out to, they can now click on their Discord profile, and quickly see if that person also has their Twitter account attached to their Discord profile, and easily click on that, to view the type of tweets they make to decide if this is the type of person that shares their interests, and might be someone they want to reach out to, and can now easily do so.

clickable name on the joined message

Cool bot!

It would be even better if you would make the name that joins the voice channel in the message, clickable to the users profile. Similar to when you click on someone's name in the sidebar or when they post a message.

I know when they are in the voice channel they will appear on the channel and you can navigate over and click there... but... let's say they pop in the voice channel, and then pop out... and you got a server with 1000 members and the person's status is offline... it's gonna be a nightmare to try to find that person in the right hand sidebar later. But... if the join message was clickable, you'd be able to view their profile right from the channel you are logging joins to.

Enjoy life!

Notifications not displaying names sometimes

The bot is working great, but I noticed something happening awhile back, sometimes when people join it doesn't state their name.
The only thing all these people seem to have in common is that they aren't using a custom picture on discord, they are using the standard picture discord provides.

And here is a picture that showcases what I'm talking about:
