foursquare-palmpre's Issues

Type-to-search not obvious

Some users complaining about it. Should figure out a way to explain this without actually put a search box or something on the screen, which would defeat the purpose and break away from the webOSy-ness of it. Maybe a brief pop-up balloon image that appears and then fades away?

Venue View: Scrolling and Hopping

When viewing a single venue, the flick to scroll seems much more choppy than in other scenes. Sometimes flick-to-scroll works fine, sometimes it hops down a centimeter and abruptly halts.

Additionally, when scrolled to the bottom of a venue view, sometimes the scene seems to try to autoscroll, then return to its original position, then autoscroll, etc... This seems to happen then the scene is scrolled such that the tip/todo buttons or the tags are at the top of the screen. Hard to diagnose, but it sure jumps out at you when it happens.

fake edit: I think it is trying to align the TAGS header to the top of the screen by autoscrolling down, but in doing so it scrolls down so far that the bottom of VENUE INFO has a space, so it autoscrolls up, repeat...

Profile button results in endless spinner

Clicking the "profile" button results in a circular "wait" spinner that never goes away (gave up after 3+ minutes). This makes it impossible to see one's own badges. If instead you go to "Friends" and click on yourself, a notification "Error getting user's info" pops up, and the circular spinner of death persists there too.

v 0.9.6, WebOS 1.3.5.1

Venue detail should show more

Low priority. Add in more information about the venue: nearby tweets from twitter, rating on Yelp (or some other service), etc.

Unable to ping Facebook when checking in

I am using version 0.8.6 from Github and it is not pinging Facebook when I check in no matter whether I choose "off" or "on". I noticed there were some closed tickets stating this was fixed in 0.8.6, so I wanted to let you know it isn't. Thanks!

Enhancement request: create new venue from Google Maps search result

Creating a new venue is hard. If the fields could be optionally prepopulated from a Google Maps search result, I would be 3 million times happier adding new venues. Usually that's what I do to grab the address anyway; it's often hard to find on the actual physical building!

Thanks for the app, it's fantastic!

map error

I get an error when I saw it in the palm-log
The error is as follows:
" error: Error Initializing Maps: TypeError: Cannot read property 'firstChild' of null"
Can anyone help me to solve it.

Thanks,
nimeshd

When Switching Back To Friends Leaderboard From City Leardboard....

Pretty minor UI bug, but thought I would post.

When going from the city leaderboard back to the friends leaderboard, if you had scrolled down to the bottom of the page on the city leaderboard, you will find you have to scroll back up on an empty page on the friends leaderboard, unless, I assume, you have enough friends listed that it reaches down the page far enough. I have 3, so I see a blank page :-)

This has been like this since the native leaderboards were introduced, and while not a big deal, it still manages to catch me off guard when I first go back to the friends list, wondering why I am looking at a blank page.

Letter in zip code?

the new auto population of state, city and zip is uber win!

i tried it twice (in the same area) and my zip code shows, correct. but has an A at the end of it... is this something wrong in the script or somewhere else or should there be an A in my zip code? lol.

Tips

Sometimes nearby tips doesn't load. This is a result of foursquare returning malformed JSON on select occasions. I've sent an email to foursquare, hopefully the issue gets resolved.

Search Venue Entry Box Hidden Until Magnifying Glass Clicked

By default the app loads to the Venues screen and finds nearby venues. If the user is in a venue-dense environment or if GPS is slightly inaccurate, it is very helpful to use the Search Venue feature. Not a high priority, but it would be helpful if immediately upon typing text while at the Venues screen then the Search Venues Box were to unhide itself, rather than having to click the Magnifying Glass.

Note: Not a defect, but it's interesting that even though the Search Venues Box may be hidden, that the text entered is still captured by the box and is visible when the Magnifying Glass is clicked.

Command Menu dissappears

After checking in and leaving venue scene open for a long time and then swiping back, Command Menu never reappears.

Edge-case issue, so low priority. Wait time is min 30mins. when testing issue.

Venue search

When directly searching for a venue (going sraight to the search button without waiting for the nearby venues to load) I get no results (which might be my own fault) and the "add new venue" button is still onscreen. I'll try to get a screenshot.

Ability to click on venues in user info scene

Not a critical functionality defect, just a usability suggestion: When viewing user info for someone, and seeing their mayoralties, it would be nice to be able to click on those venues to see the detail.

GPS update on moving locations

Not sure if this is an app/API issue or a GPS issue, but tonight I was checking in to my second location, about 2 miles apart, and when I reopened the app, the same "nearby venues" loaded from the first checkin. I was on EVDO, full bars, at both locations.

Venues loading needs to be more informative

Refresh button should be small spinner while venues are loading and a textual message should be displayed where the large spinner is right now. once venues have been loaded, small spinner becomes refresh button and textual message disappears and venue list is displayed.

change text fields?

any way to make the zip code and phone number for a new venue default to numbers only? and use GPS to know what state the new venue is in?

Clickable history

Looks like I'm able to click on venues in my history (via the User Info scene) but they're not delivering me to other scenes.

No Preferences

Currently there's no way to change your city, or change what account is logged in.

Venue search via map?

any way to make it so that if im on the venue screen, click the link to the map, i can tap on a map and it will automatically fill in the address information and i just add the name?

also,

when i add a new venue it doesnt show up on the list of venues even if i close the app and reopen it. i listed all info for the venue minus the phone number...?

Checked Into Location For First Time... Twice...

Over the weekend I checked into a location for the first time, got the +5 for first time, went about my business. Later on the same day, I returned to the location for an event, checked in and app reported that I received the +5 for checking in for first time again. Not sure if I did indeed receive the +5 points again or not, and if so, if it's an issue with the site or the app, but this did see this happen with two different locations (both times checked in a second time later in the day after checking in for the first time earlier in the day)

Venues map

Map for venues only populates nearby venues. Does not repopulate as user manually moves map.

auto population?

If i open facebook and dont wait for local venues to load before clicking add new venue, it does not autopopulate city/state/zip... any way to make the search run in the background so all that will still get filled in?

Navigation from tips/to-do

Navigating to the "friends" page from the "to-dos" page is non-functional. This ONLY happens when going to the friends page, not for any others.

Self and Friends Current Venue/Presence

Two part, both related to current location:

  1. During the very fast (^_^) loading screen, it flashes 'Logging [email protected] into foursquare...' then 'User N. @ Last Venue Visited', even if the venue was visited many hours ago or on a previous day. I'm not sure of the best solution, but I'd suggest that if the last checkin was more than X hours previous, or before the start of the day, that it read 'User N. not checked in anywhere' or something similar.

  2. When viewing the list of friends (not the map), they seem to appear in a random order. It would be helpful to have a sort and/or default sort by any/all of the following:
    a) last name
    b) last checkin/shout
    c) closest checkin
In addition to the friend's name and venue, it might be nice to show the time they checked in. Along the same lines and in the spirit of 1 above, it might make sense to note they aren't currently checked in anywhere if it has been more than X hours.

Most of my suggestions are largely cosmetic and ergonomic; the core functionality, which is the ability to find/add a venue and check-in to it is working flawlessly, and the points/mayorlty updates during checkin are working perfectly. I love tapping the "Sweet" button ;) Most importantly, I have had zero lock-ups, crashes or resets, which can be a characteristic of some shoddy homebrew. Loving the app so far!! :D

Foursquare Special Showing Up Without Venue Named

Tonight I hit REI in Redmond, WA. When I checked in, below where it told me "You're still The Mayor of REI....", in the Foursquare Special are, it reported "$25 Gift Certificate for the Mayor. $10 Gift Certificate on your 10th visit!".

As I already spend an ungodly amount at REI, I was excited, but didn't believe it, so figured I'd go home and check it out. The offer was not for REI, but rather for nearby Jerzy's Wine Bar.

I know on at least some builds in the past, the app has reported the venue when showing me an offer in this space. Not sure if this is an issue with the app or something at Foursquare, but it made the offer confusing not being labeled.

Have a screen cap of the event. Tried this twice and returned the same result both times.

Using v.0.7.3

foursquare/facebook ping issue

I am having the issues with my foursquare blackberry app version 1.7 pinging to facebook, even with everything linked fine on the website, and with send to friends, twitter and facebook all checked appropriately when checking-in on the app. It pings to twitter just fine. This initially happened to me last Saturday, and I unlinked the facebook account, and then reinstalled the blackberry app, and it was fixed - until last night. It has not been pinging to facebook again. What else can I do?

Can't get to friends search from map

Clicking the search icon on the friends map scene doesn't do anything. It should load the friends list with the search drawer open, like on the venues map.

"Add New Venue" scene resets

I've noticed, when I was using the app the other day to add a new venue, that as I was switching cards to check the address/phone number of the venue (in Google Maps) that every time I switched back, the scene resets back to the main venues screen.
