measure-text's Introduction

measure-text

An efficient text measurement function for the browser.

API

const measurement = measureText({
  text: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog",
  fontFamily: "Georgia",
  fontSize: "2em",
  lineHeight: 1.3,
  fontWeight: 700,
  fontStyle: "italic"
});

measureText accepts the following parameter object:

  • text: string|Array<string> the text to measure. Measures multiline text if provided an array.
  • fontFamily: string the font family of the text.
  • fontSize: string the size of the font. All CSS units work here.
  • lineHeight: string|number the line height of the text. measureText assumes the lineHeight to be a unitless CSS value if provided either a number or a string with no unit. Any other string acts as a CSS value.
    • The following units are not supported: "%", "ch", "cm", "em", "ex"
  • fontWeight: string|number the weight of the text. Accepts numeric and textual weights.
  • fontStyle: string the style of the font.
  • canvas: HTMLCanvasElement a canvas instance to use instead of the default global canvas.

measure-text's Issues

Is chinese supported ?

When I use it to measure Chinese text。
I get a width larger then it should be 。

I want to put texts with different colors in a line。 so I get some blank in texts。

I will try more to fix it ,but I didn't now。

Any know it ? Thanks

Are em's supported?

The readme was a bit confusing on this point; the example uses ems, but the docs say that ems are not supported.

Potential security vulnerability

Hello!

Our repo Reactochart uses measure-text and we found that it may have a potential security vulnerability. Tracing our package-lock.json it maps to url-loader v0.5.9 which uses mime v1.3.6 which I believe has the vulnerability.

It's fixed in later versions broofa/mime#167.

Let me know if this is something I can help with!
