Hello,
We have the PERC H710 Mini controller with its firmware installed, and for the file system we use zfs.
The problem we have is that every time the computer restarts, the letters change on the disks randomly causing the pool to become unusable.
Is there a way to set the letters of the disks permanent?
Thanks
Hi,
After flashing the LSI firmware for an H710P Mini D1 on a Dell Poweredge R720, by following the guide from https://fohdeesha.com/docs/H710P-D1/ , both status and activity LEDs from all hard-drives are off all the time. The hard-drives are correctly identified by the bios and OS and function normally.
Did anyone encounter this situation? What would be the cause and how can it be fixed?
Thanks!
On this page https://fohdeesha.com/docs/icx6430.html the command is ip dhcp-client disable
but I get
ICX6430-48 Switch(config)#ip dhcp-client disable
Invalid input -> disable
Type ? for a list
From here, the command is no ip dhcp-client enable
which works for me. I can use ip dhcp-client enable
after and it doesn't complain with
ICX6430-48 Switch(config)#ip dhcp-client enable
Error: Client already enabled
Hi buddy, i've been following your "issue" topic on the p710 flashing problem.
I was researching exactly the same thing because i try for days to crossflash a Intel integrated 2208 raid card ( formely a rms25cb080 )
Of course and thanks to intel the hardware is locked on intel Motherboard. But well , i got 2 of them .
I ve succeed in flashing this 2208 ( D1 ) card with an lsi firmware, but the result is it doesn't detect any disk in IT mode, and the MPT2sas detection freeze when using a intel 24port expander.
So i was thinking the problem come from the SBR , ( i flashed a blank 512byte one ) and i tried to edit the original dumped one.
When i try to parse it with SBRTOOL , i got some checksum error ( MFG DATA copies differ, using first / mfgdata cheksum error / sas adress checksum error.
So i used the one you provided = checksum-sbrtool.py and i get a checksum value 148 / proper checksum 148 not sure why it's the same number. and after that mfg1 and mfg2 which are the same...
From here i'm lost... could you help me ?
Attached my original sbr file.
Intel Sbr.zip
Thanks a lot !
The freedos info.bat script checks the PERC model by executing megacli to check the model, which is perfectly possible to do it in linux instead. Putting info.bat in linux instead saves one reboot.
So, I want to try this out, but I have an r610. Will these cards work in the storage slot, or the regular pci slot if I ordered this card. (It is an obvious upgrade over the cards supported for the 11th gen servers.)
I can't seem to find any info about them working or not after looking for a few days. I like to think my Google Fu is good, but I am stumped.
In particular, I guess I am asking is does the r610 look for the same vendor ids in the card, and if not, could we modify them to match what the r610 is expecting. What could I do to help such an effort, if it is required.
I currently have a stock Dell PERC 6i in the system, if the info from it would be useful.
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Recently, more people in China have begun to use these old PERC cards, so I made a translated version.
Can I send the translated files to those needed ( because your tutorial is under GPL 3 License)
Thanks
There is any option to detect disk in enclouser ?
I try to use mptutil, but not detect controller
Also I try to user lsiutil, and it see controller and encloser but I can't find how to determinate which letter/serial number of disk is wich port
There are some tools or tips to find it ?
Sorry for writing this in an issue, however, I am not able to create an STH account for some strange reason. I am running Unraid and have just ordered an H710 mini mono to replace my H310 full-size card. For a long time, TRIM has not worked on these cards within Unraid even though my SSD (1TB 860 EVO) meets the requirements from LSI for TRIM. The solution was solved by flashing the P16 firmware onto the card, after which TRIM has worked flawlessly.
Would changing the firmware version flashed by the tool be as simple as replacing the firmware file? Or would there be more steps involved in this process?
Thank you for your time and great work.
Before I found this guide, I attempted cross-flashing my h310 mini in an R720 with the traditional guides, not realizing the motherboard would look for the Dell vendor code and halt booting. I'm hoping I can restore the Dell firmware via the UART port - won't have a chance to look at it for a while. Is this something you've done or looked into before?
Happy to document my findings when I get around to it if it's not something you've investigated.
Hi,
I read the introduction then clicked into H710P D1 and didn't take note that I needed to record the sas address.
What do I need to do now to set the sas address? can I just use your example, or how do I generate a new one?
Thanks
Barry
Hi
I have a Dell R720 and i flashed my 710p mini D1 with the ability to boot from the BIOS and everything went without error but now i don't see the option to manage the card.
TrueNAS sees the HDDs and installs the OS to the HDDs but the server doesn't see the HDDs so just sits there saying no bootable devices.
Thanks in advance
It might be worth checking out a markdown linter like markdownlint for visual studio, or coc-markdownlint and nvim-lint.
We use that over at Privacy Guides. We also use mkdocs-material, so good choice there.
Another thing I'd possibly suggest is a writing style guide, and use more admonitions.
I had a monitor that didn't like Linux VGA output very well, so I ran into a problem with this. I used IPMI to reboot/login/modify most stuff, but the live CD menu doesn't come across IPMI, and my monitor was busted, so I had to buy a ratty old one and plug it in to figure out why it was stalling out. Whatev, I needed one for the occasional use. At least in my case, I had to physically hit enter on the box. This is a super-minor quibble, and not terribly interesting to fix.
What I really wanted to do was THANK YOU for putting this project and making it available for others to use. If there was a place to thumbs-up on your website (the guide is great, btw), or here, I would have.
Best regards
As seen on the download page here:
2 September 2021: RUCKUS has found a defect # FI-247944 due to which we have removed the software image for 08.0.90m from the Support Portal. For more information, please read TSB-2021-005
I can't actually see the details on that issue as I do not have a support contract, but a search shows this:
Although the firmware is being used as an intermediate firmware to flash 08095d UFI, it may be worth changing the guide to use 08090k instead of 08090m.
Thoughts?
I used your page and live iso files to successfully flash a H710 B0 card to 9205 8E in IT MODE and it worked fine. I am trying to flash an IBM M5015 which uses the same 2108 chip, but without success. After I do the dos iso and BIGB0CRS (which cleans and writes SBR successfully) to the M5015, then load the linux iso the next script does not do anything, it says 0 MPT found.
Sas2Flash does not find the M5015 after writing to sbr either. Is it possible to flash a M5015 with 2108 to it mode like your scripts did for the H710?
I have 2 M5015 and a AOC-SAS2P-H8IR also...both use the same LSI 2108 chip
Hello,
I am attempting to flash my H710p D1 mini and getting a setsas command error. I did not get the initial kernel panic when starting the flash if that matters. Below is the error I am getting. Any ideas if I did something wrong or how to correct it? I didn't want to take the chance of rebooting and retrying if it would brick my controller. My other raid controller I was able to flash with no problems. I have tried the command with my initial SAS address and the one listed in your example, and I am getting the same error both ways.
Thank you for Brocade ICX Series (cheap & powerful 10gbE/40gbE switching).
Just had some questions about things I had to do that weren't covered by the
guide.
https://fohdeesha.com/docs/icx6xxx-adv.html#optional-key-based-ssh-access
...The default settings of RSA @ 2048 bits works without issue....
This doesn't seem to be the default anymore (at least on Linux):
$ man ssh-keygen
-b ...For RSA keys, the minimum size is 1024 bits and the default is 3072 bits....
Old SSH server
I also had to convert to SSH2 format or I got this error:
ip ssh pub-key-file tftp TFTP-IP public.key
ERROR: key# 1 must begin with ---- BEGIN SSH2 PUBLIC KEY ----
Error in SSH Public Key file!
Trying to ssh when everything is setup gives:
$ ssh USER@SWITCH-IP
Unable to negotiate with SWITCH-IP port 22: no matching key exchange method found. Their offer: diffie-hellman-group1-sha1
$ ssh -oKexAlgorithms=+diffie-hellman-group1-sha1 USER@SWITCH-IP
Unable to negotiate with SWITCH-IP port 22: no matching host key type found. Their offer: ssh-rsa
$ ssh -oKexAlgorithms=+diffie-hellman-group1-sha1 -oHostKeyAlgorithms=+ssh-rsa USER@SWITCH-IP
SSH@HOSTNAME>
Adding the changes to ssh/config
Make this persistent by adding something like this to ~/.ssh/config
:
Host HOSTNAME
KexAlgorithms +diffie-hellman-group1-sha1
HostKeyAlgorithms +ssh-rsa
Hostname SWITCH-IP
If none of this is wrong I think it should be added to the guide.
Hi. Thanks for posting the instructions for flashing "IT Mode" for the 710P Mini. I do have one question, though.
I want to reflash my 710P Mini with the LSI firmware here: https://github.com/Fohdeesha/lab-docu/blob/master/docs/H710P-B0.md (not sure if I have a B0 or a D1 at the moment)
Will I be able to preserve my current RAID config and data, or will this reinitialize the whole RAID array and I will need to restore from backup?
More details about my specific setup can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/gk8a46/migrate_perc_710p_mini_to_sas_92078i/
Any insight you can offer before I jeopardize 10+ TB of data would be awesome.
Hellow gentlemens , sorry if place is wrong but can i ask is it suppose to be that way in iDrac (to no show anything) ?
My steps was:
Firstly update bios and all stuf possible via Dell EMC
Second read the guide as follows:
Using an H310 on a standard desktop PC to flash it. When I boot into the linux disk I can see a Broadcom / LSI Megaraid in lsi but when running the sas-h310 I get no info.
