feednotifier's Issues

Feed Notifier Has Stopped Working

I am running Feed Notifier! 1.1.0, and it has stopped working on my browsers two days ago. I use it on two separate computers, have not manually updated Chrome but both are running the latest version (29.0.1547.57).

Removed and Added Feed Notifier again to ensure I was running latest version, still not working.

Running on Mac OS Mountain Lion 10.8.3

Change theme

Hi,
I want change the default theme. For example, how to select the minimal theme instead of default theme ?

Best regards.

gmail account error

Hello,
I’m receiving this error message when I try to add rss of my gmail account:
The URL entered does not appear to be a valid RSS/Atom feed.
My gmail account is in format: [email protected]. My other gmail accounts that don’t have dots between username work OK. It seems that dots between name and lastname are an issue. Is there any way I can make this gmail account work?

Suggestion: Support text to speech ability for new article subjects.

Hello, first many thanks for creating feed notifier, it is the best at what it does.

Just a suggestion for a feature... it would be absolutely brilliant to have an ability for feed notifier to read out via windows (and mac) text to speech functions the subject of a new article.

A lesser alternative could be to automatically copy the subject to the clipboard on arrival, as many text to speech applications support clipboard monitoring the contents for text to speech.

Thanks in advance for considering, and again for developing feed notifier!

Problem with eBay Feeds

I have been getting some messed up feeds from ebay in the past few days, I just noticed it - I'm not getting feeds for search results in ebay.

Here's an example:

This is the RSS Feed link:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/rss/?LH_FS=1&LH_Price=13..14%40c&_nkw=dalen+ow6&rt=nc&_clu=2&_fcid=1&_localstpos=90502&_mPrRngCbx=1&_rss=1&_sop=15&_stpos=90503&gbr=1

It shows no results.

This is the Feed Link I am given for it:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?LH_FS=1&LH_Price=13..14%40c&_nkw=dalen+ow6&_clu=2&_fcid=1&_localstpos=90502&_mPrRngCbx=1&_sop=15&_stpos=90503&gbr=1&ssPageName=RSS:B:SHOP:US:100

3 active listings are found. RSS feed doesn't find any listings.

Can anyone help me?

Some quick issues and further improvements

Quick ones:
(1) Disable on-top pop up while there are other applications running full screen
(2) Make an option for not showing pop-up for updates which are older than a specific period of time (better be in hours)
(3) Allow images to be fed, too

Further improvements
(4) Export/Import list of RSS sites into, preferrable, *.csv or *.txt files (so that users can add/delete sites easily through 3rd-party programmes)
(5) Allow "Groups" for RSS sites so that special policies can be made for each group (for e.g., specifying the period in (2) above for each group, where the pop-up appears)
(6) Greater flexibility as to how the pop-up should look like
(7) Make the above changes available to portable version

Thanks a lot (BTW, it is already a very good app as it now stands!)

Old posts pop up

I'm using this program to check new events through RSS on some site. Sometimes the pop up window comes up showing old post as new one (3 days ago as it says). Opening the feed in Firefox show this post as old.

Website

Your website doesn't work, comes with Error establishing a database connection, i'm missing some support in using the feednotifier!

Making the popup notifications sortable by time (globally), rather than by feed then by time.

Hello,

Thanks so much for the work you've put into Feed Notifier!

I saw your post on Meta.SE, so I know you must know what I mean when I say: Feed Notifier is immensely useful for getting to new questions before others ;-) But, having several feeds on Stack Overflow, like a web development feed (e.g. HTML/CSS/JS/PHP questions), and a C/C++ feed, I realized that when I skip to the latest post in order to try to rewind through the latest posts (i.e. trying to see the most recent ones), I have to go through all of one feed to get to the most recent posts of another feed.

It'd be nice to be able to check an option in the settings that causes popup notifications to be sorted by time, globally, across all feeds, "interleaved," if you will.

At the least, since the order in which I see the feeds seems to be based on the order in which the feeds were added, an ability to sort those feeds might be helpful.

Thank you!

Adding feed that requires Authentication returns NSXMLParserErrorDomain error 4.

403 FORBIDDEN

Update: This only appears to happen on Microsoft Office 365-hosted SharePoint sites, it works fine on an NTLM-protected self-hosted SharePoint site (it prompts for credentials).

Bug: Click on a news often does not open in browser (OS X)

Hi,

I used FeedNotifier with Ubuntu where it works fine. Now I installed it on a OS X 10.8.3 and I like the way it shows notifications as popus and as items in the notification bar. Unfortunately very often when I click on a news it disappears in the notification bar but does not effect opening the website in my browser (I use Mozilla Firefox).

I am sorry that I can not make further notes related to how you can reproduce it. I use more than one space (desktop) - however even if the browser is on the currently visible space the bug seems to occur irregulary. I also use a seperate monitor and a laser mouse (but the error also occurs when clicking by using the touchpad)

RSS/Atom is not added because of proxy settings

I have recently installed FeedNotifier in windows. My problem is I am running behind a proxy and I gave the proxy settings in FeedNotifier. But inspite of this is given, none of the feeds are added to FeedNotifier.

Looks like proxy thing is not working, thats why raising it as an issue.

New messages to the front

Hi, thank you for all the hard work with Feed Notifier.

Would it be possible to get an update where any new messages either popup and overwrite the existing message or either stack up the screen. Currently if messages are set to display indefinately and a user hasnt closed the popup then new messages wont be displayed unless the user clicks on the next button.

We would be happy to talk about paying for developement costs if this was possible

Pop-up history issue

  1. right-click tray icon
  2. select preferences
  3. click "options"
  4. click "Clear" under Caching with dropdown on 1 day
  5. click OK so the Preferences window closes
  6. right click the tray icon
  7. click "Update now"
  8. double click the tray icon
  9. nothing appears however I would expect the items of the added feeds to appear

Perhaps this is not an issue an I am misunderstanding the concept of cache for this software. What is actually being cached? The RSS messages? If that is the case then I would expect the Clear cache to remove all the items from the cache. Not sure however what the day indicator has to do with this clearing operator: if I set under Preferences>Options the dropdown on 10 days and then hit the clear button under "Caching" does this mean that I clear the program's cache of the last 10 days? It remains strange to me that for whatever the number of days I clean the cache, looking at Preferences>Feeds>Line of a particular feed still shows a number of items >0 (so nothing cleaned?).

An explanation of what is being cached and how the cache cleaning works would do wonders.

Set FeedNotifier as the default RSS App

In safari trying to open one RSS Feed URL : e.g., feed://.../atom.xml it says no RSS reader is installed. Other apps (such as Shrook) offer this option to register the app as the default RSS reader.

Thanks

authenticated feeds and german special characters

if u want to subscribe to an authenticated feed that requires a username and password and your password contains a (german) special character such as ß feed notifier is not working. u get an error message that the atom or rss feed is not valid.

Special characters in feed body

I use FeedNotifier 2.5 to read Jira 4.3.4 feeds - I don't know whether this issue is Jira specific or not.
When the feed body (summary) contains special characters like in "egalité" (in French) it's output in the raw xml output format is "egalité". Ampersand character of course is escaped to & because of xml format. é (amp hash xE9) character is understood by all browsers - only FeedNotifier does not know how to handle it.

Can you fix it, to convert these characters to the native ones?

Tray icon change when new items arrive

Please consider making an option for tray icon showing if there are new feed items available since last time.
I do not mean implementing a full read/not_read properties of every item, it could be something simple like
'any new items since I left-clicked on a icon'
or 'since I left-clicked and scrolled to the last item in popup window'

I wanted to use Feed Notifier as a rss watcher on my headless torrent computer, and I connect to it through RDP only when I feel like it. Popups aren't useful in my case since I do not have the rdp session constantly open.

Randomly pops up past feeds when using with reddit inbox

I added my reddit inbox feed
http://www.reddit.com/message/inbox/.rss?feed=297~~4bd&user=me
and set it to update every minute, and after getting all the messages the first time, it randomly keeps getting new messages from the past and poping them up as new notifications. It's quite annoying, kinda like reposts..

Multi user profile support

Hi,

Our office would like to implement the Feed Notifier for our internal RSS Feed. However, I've noticed that the settings of Feed Notifier is shared between all users for the same computer. Could you provide an update in which the settings are stored on the User Profiles instead of Program Files?

Thanks,
Jason

Sharepoint 2007 Blog Feed

The company I work for has a Sharepoint site setup for internal company use. We've got a blog setup on the Sharepoint site. I'm trying to subscribe to the blog which has a URL similar to ...

https://foo.bar.com/intranet/blogs/foobars/_layouts/listfeed.aspx?List={C9FD7E8C-88EB-46E2-8B88-BF45165ABD58}

When I enter the URL, I get prompted for credentials; however, I can't seem to get past this point. I've entered my login credentials, with the domain specified (DOMAIN\login) and without .. no luck.

Thanks in advance for any and all help provided!

URL Validation issue

If I provide a private url which is on https with a custom port then the Invalid Feed prompt is displayed. The example url is

https://someurl.com:8050/somepage/morepage/rss

Edit:
I wanted to let you know that this url is actually a Jenkins system which requires authentication. I don't know if that is a feature in your app. If it is then it is only the url validation issue else it might be authentiation as well.

Item publication time

Please add the time of publication of the feed items to the pop-up window. Now when I power on my PC at the morning, i see something like "xx seconds ago" in feed pop-ups, even if the item was published many hours ago. But I would like to see the time of original publication.
Sorry for my bad English.

Specify browser URL option

It would be great if you could add a field in the options to allow the user to specify a path to the browser they'd like to open links in.

For instance, I use Chrome Canary as my main browser which I'm unable to set as my system "default browser". Specifying a path would get around this and a few other edge-case issues. It's quite a common option to have these days.

Linux Support?

Hi..
How I can get this app to work in linux? (gnome-shell)

Limit feed history by posts

At current, you can limit the feed history by a timeline, default is 1 day I believe.

Would it be possible to limit to only the most recent 5 (or x number) of posts?

Suggestions

Great app, especially fond of the portable version. Here are a few suggestions based on my experience with it so far...

1.) Font settings (color, size, style).
2.) Resize pop-up from edges.
3.) Pop-up [vertical] stacking.
4.) Pop-up duration based on mouse movement (aka, wait if idle). For instance, if I set a 10 count I can read it before it disappears when I'm active, but if I'm inactive I would like if they would remain until I return after which they begin to disappear.
5.) Feed-specific placement, so I can prioritize placement of certain feeds.

Thanks again. Keep up the fine work.

REQUEST: Highlighting and Feed Error Resilience

Highlighting
It would be nice if filters had a radio button to choose between blocking items that don't match or highlighting those that do (while letting the rest through normally), and a color button to set the highlight background color.

Feed Error Resilience
A number of feeds which I follow are buggy, which frequently results in re-notification of items.
It would be nice if the content of recent items were cached item by item as checksums and checked item by item against "new" results.
I'd like to request that whatever cache is used to check the newness of items be specifiable by number (per feed). Some feeds update unpredictably yet cause regular re-notifications.

Notification window position

I often connect via RDP from a laptop to a PC. On the laptop screen resolution is lower than on the PC. So, if I ran Feednotifier from the RDP, then I turn over on the PC, then a notification window appears in the middle of the screen, and it can't move it!

Please make a binding of notification window to the bottom right corner every time when notifiacation window appears.

Screenshots:
http://d.pr/t3pk
http://d.pr/I1Jj

URL redirection issue

The URL redirection link in the pop up notification came up, in the following format as a single string ->

https://[Feed URL]https//[Feed URL]

Any idea what could have caused the issue? Thanks!

Refactor controller feed polling

Instead of polling the feed manager every 5 seconds, use a better data structure to know how long to sleep before polling feeds again

Changing default Font and theme support in window

How can I change the default font? I try to see the source code, inside the source code got theme folder and 3 themes, inside there got css file. But when I installed for window there is no theme folder in it. I need it because default font doesn't support Burmese language.
Is there anyway to change the font or theme in installed version?
Thank you

FeedNotifier Causing Force Quit Issues

On OS X, I recently began getting a Force Quit pop up that indicates my OS X startup disk has no more space available for applications. I checked Activity Monitor, and FeedNotifier is using 3.55 GB of my real mem, and 60.30 GB of virtual mem.

How to fix?

Thank you.

Migrate Data

I'd like to be able to replicate the settings from one computer to another. Can this be done easily? I see a settings.dat file - is it as easy as copying that between PCs?

Return from idle state too aggressive

My (Windows 7, 64-bit) system locks when I'm away. When I return, I unlock and it can take a few seconds, sometimes 10s of seconds, to actually return to the desktop screen. During this time, FeedNotifier is dutifully displaying alerts, though I have no ability to see them.

There should be a delay (possibly configurable) for how long to wait before displaying alerts after returning from idle. I'm sure this will also be useful for others not in my situation, as people might not want to get hit with alerts immediately sitting down back at the computer.

Unable to subscribe to Gitorious' atom feed on internal network

I'm 'watch"-ing projects that I've subscribed to on my company's gitorious deployment on our internal network. These "watch"-ed projects will appear in my personal Newsfeed, and there is an atom feed for that. However, I am not able to subscribe to it in FeedNotifier. Says the atom feed is invalid. I am able to subcribe to it using Firefox's Live Bookmarks though.
