glassit-linux's Introduction

GlassIt Linux

GlassIt VSC is a popular Windows-only transparency extension for VSCode. GlassIt Linux expands that functionality to include standard Linux window managers such as GNOME.

Prerequisites

GlassIt Linux requires wmctrl (to get the window ID), xprop (to set transparency), and bash (to run the transparency commands) installed on your system. These come standard with most Linux distributions, but just in case, you can install them with:

sudo apt install -y wmctrl x11-utils bash

Usage

  • Install the extension
  • Restart any single VSCode window

Settings

Opacity defaults to 97%, but can be set with the setting Glassit-linux: Opacity in VSCode's settings window. A restart of any single window is required for this setting to take effect.

glassit-linux's Issues

ArchLinux/i3 - not working

the extension is not working, i made sure that dependencies are met, willing to do testing/debugging/troubleshooting

distro: Arch
WM: i3
compositor: picom
using the open source vscode variant available in official arch repos (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=code)

EDIT: removed the open source one and installed the Microsoft one, now it works, but all it does is adjust the whole frame transparency, so the text, side bar and everything gets transparency applied to it, just like applying transparency through my compositor.

Manjaro/KDE Plasma Not working

extension is not working, all the dependencies are installed/met.

distro : Manjaro
WM : KDE plasma
compositor : XRender
using the official repo from pacman : pacman -S code

Change docs and include correct syntax

the correct syntax to use on the user prefs is
"glassit-linux.opacity": 80
and not
Glassit-linux: Opacity
as stated on the extension information.

Good that vscode suggested me the change when typing otherwise I would think this extension does not work .

Thanks for your work
