nicecharts's Issues

Inkscape Inclusion

@Moini wrote this in this PR:

There's currently a discussion on the Inkscape developers mailing list if NiceCharts should be added to the default extensions shipped with Inkscape:
https://sourceforge.net/p/inkscape/mailman/message/34884277/

I am not on the inkscape mailing-list and don't intend to change that for now, so I propose to continue this discussion here and link from there.

Unlike what a short look at the github may let you think, I am not the original either, that would be Christoph Sterz (@chsterz) whose github-fork is here . I was just the first one to import that project from launchpad, as the first github commit also states. (Don't judge me for that horrible Idea to not split that commit into two: I was five years younger back then and still went to school.)

While I did make some relatively large changes, I am not the most important person to ask for a license change. From my side however GPL2 is fine, for other licenses just ask.

With regards to โ€œwho is upstream?โ€: Apparently that is still technically me, but I am more then happy to pass that honor to someone else. In fact: Neither do I really use (and thereby test) this plugin these days, nor am I doing any active development on it or feel sufficiently competent with regards to python to judge potential non-trivial PRs. Hadn't there been complaints by users, It still wouldn't work in new versions of Inkscape. Aka: At this point it would be the best for the software do be maintained by someone else. The actual inkscape-team would likely be perfect. ;-)

This leads to the point whether inclusion is desired: I would feel very honored by that and certainly encourage that. I believe that Christoph said something similar, but this would be several years in the past and might therefore be wrong memory or outdated, though I doubt that.

I hope that github notifies the mentioned users, but I will also contact Christoph via Jabber, just to be on the safe side.

Error unittouu Attribute

My friends tried NiceCharts in Linux and they got this error message:

Log:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "nicechart.py", line 579, in
effect.affect()
File "/usr/share/inkscape/extensions/inkex.py", line 268, in affect
self.effect()
File "nicechart.py", line 186, in effect
width = inkex.unittouu(svg.get('width'))
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'unittouu'

Inkscape 0.48.4, Python 2.7.8, source code from https://launchpad.net/nicecharts. The error was same, around of inkex.py and unitouu attribute. Please tell me if my information is not enough.
