Welcome to GitHub Education Teacher Training

Welcome to GitHub Education Teacher Training. We’re so happy you’re here!

In this training, you will be presented with a mix of video lessons and assignments. All videos and assignments can be found in this repository under their respective modules.

In each module, you will find video lessons marked with this icon 📺 and assignments will be marked with this icon 📓.

To begin

Your journey begins in Module 0, where you’ll setup everything you need to complete the training.

Work at your own pace

There is no grade for this training and GitHub Education staff does not review your work, so feel free to explore at your own pace. We hope the training will help you get started with GitHub and GitHub Education.

When you are finished

Once you have completed the training, you’re free to end there with your new knowledge. Or, after you have spent some using GitHub in your classroom, you may want to consider becoming a GitHub Campus Advisor.

GitHub Campus Advisors are a community of educator leaders who champion industry tools in their classroom. As a Campus Advisor, you’ll:

  • Join a collaborative network that allows you to learn from your peers, see how they’re supporting their classrooms, and share your own tips
  • Receive professional development support from GitHub
  • Be invited to participate in GitHub Education sponsored conferences

A Campus Advisor applicant should:

  • Be comfortable using Git and GitHub
  • Have had a GitHub account for at least six months
  • Be a classroom teacher who teaches students
  • Have used GitHub with students in the classroom for at least one semester
  • Be verified for GitHub Education benefits for teachers (which grants you access to the GitHub Teacher Toolbox)

Learn more about the Campus Advisors program at https://education.github.com/advisors.

This is your training

It is beneficial that you take advantage of the resources presented to you, but if you find instances where things can be improved, please create an issue in the original repository here. If you are not familiar with issues in GitHub, no worries, you will learn about them soon.

Questions

If you have any questions regarding setup or on any of the learning modules, head over to the GitHub Education Community for assistance.
