INTRO TO GIT

This repository is designed to demonstrate basic introduction to Git using windows subsystem for linux and ubuntu terminal on your device, I'll outline the steps to get started with creating a new git repository, making changes, committing those changes, and pushing them to a remote repository.

My goal is to share with you pratical steps on how to use Ubuntu teminal locally on your device to create.

  1. Directory
  2. Files
  3. Commit
  4. Track
  5. Push your Directory to your GitHub Repository in a well structured way.

You can download Ubuntu if you do not have it on your device and proceed with the exercise below.

Error : failed to push some refs to 'https://github.com/'

Getting error message when trying to push the directory into my repository.

I was getting error message below when trying to push my directory to GitHub repository.

  • I had to Switch your branch from main to another branch name which looks like it belongs to the local directory

  • Check your branch status with the command below
git branch
git checkout main

  • Then run the push command
git pull --rebase origin main
git push origin `Branch name`
