tony-andy's Introduction

Name the face React app by, Tony and Andy

This project was bootstrapped with Create React App.

Available Scripts

In the project directory, you can run:

npm start

Runs the app in the development mode.
Open http://localhost:3000 to view it in the browser.

The page will reload if you make edits.
You will also see any lint errors in the console.

npm test

Launches the test runner in the interactive watch mode.
See the section about running tests for more information.

npm run build

Builds the app for production to the build folder.
It correctly bundles React in production mode and optimizes the build for the best performance.

The build is minified and the filenames include the hashes.
Your app is ready to be deployed!

See the section about deployment for more information.

npm run eject

Note: this is a one-way operation. Once you eject, you can’t go back!

If you aren’t satisfied with the build tool and configuration choices, you can eject at any time. This command will remove the single build dependency from your project.

Instead, it will copy all the configuration files and the transitive dependencies (Webpack, Babel, ESLint, etc) right into your project so you have full control over them. All of the commands except eject will still work, but they will point to the copied scripts so you can tweak them. At this point you’re on your own.

You don’t have to ever use eject. The curated feature set is suitable for small and middle deployments, and you shouldn’t feel obligated to use this feature. However we understand that this tool wouldn’t be useful if you couldn’t customize it when you are ready for it.

nice Styles

game looks great. the buttons are cool and it's really intuitive.

Use Name if available

github profiles have a name option (which isn't always filled in). If possible it would be better to use the name if it is there rather than just gues peoples github name

same option twice

sometimes when i have four options to click two of them are the right option.

The code needs to check that the potential other options being presented are not the same name as the correct option

Shuffle function could be simplified

We used a function to do the same thing which is only a couple of lines .... you could re-factor to use the following:

function shuffle(array) { array.sort(() => Math.random() - 0.5); }

Great MVP!!

It's looking and working really well for a project built by a pair in a completely new language! Well done. I can play the game, feel the time pressure, see my score and see a final page when the game is over. Great work!! I'll now finish code reviewing... would you like that?

Great timer!

Nice that you worked out how to set the timer and it looks great!

readme and description

It would be nice to know what the purpose of the game is and how I play it? A lil readme and maybe a line of text above the game would be cool. Otherwise slightly weird to see members of my cohort cropping up...

bug halfway through game

When I first played the game I found that halfway through it switched to 'Loading...'. I haven't been able to replicate it so I'm not sure I can offer a solution, but it might be good for you to know there's a bug there somewhere (not helpful I know sorry 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Nice modularisation

You've organised your code really nicely with your pure functions in the utils - will take a leaf out of your book!

Re-start button at end of game

Small thing but might be nice to have a re-start or back button when the game is finished instead of "refresh to play again"

Shuffler js mutates original array

it might be okay if you only use it once and you just want it shuffled but it's better practice to use pure functions.

Also for us, we shuffled a few different arrays and making the shuffle return a new array solved a lot of bugs

tests

Screenshot 2019-09-27 at 10 32 31

you've written 100% more tests than we have... but it's still not enough!

if you have time, it might be nice to test that when a user presses on a correct button, it takes them to the next page. and that when they press on the wrong one, it doesn't. and that after 30 seconds, the game automatically ends.
