open-eugene's Issues

Find projects that want to be opened

Let's actively get people opening their projects. Many would like to but don't necessarily know how. The more opening at the fest, the better!

make awesome event placards

the mozFest event placards (lanyards) were mostly blank and there were cool stickers for broadcasting identification.

  • pick your pronouns
  • skills (software, hardware, artist)
  • first language (not as applicable in eugene)

I'll try and share a photo

draft sponsorship letters

sponsorship is a key to our success. we should create a sponsorship letter with levels of sponsorship and how it works. lets put some examples in the comments.

pre-event tasks

all these things needs to happen before the event

  • rent some tables
  • collect 43 power strips
  • make cool swag

Check in with Badgr

Badgr will be there as part of the c-sky sponsorship and hanging out all day. We should check in with them and see what thier needs are. I'm assuming we can give them the lounge space near the main area. mayev we can work on different badges for participation over the weekend?

Secure event space

After we've found where we want to host the event, we need to get it booked. Book it!

logo and branding

the logo we have today is pretty basic. just words.
open-eugene-fest

something iconic that alludes to mozilla and eugenetech would be great.

Collecting Money

right now we are collecting money for EugeneTEch and TAOF and that might not be a thing too much longer. mark knows more about that.

where does the money go?

add a contributors doc

let's help folks collaborate by adding a contributors markdown document. Mark can find some examples. I think folks can contribute by proposing content, volunteering for the event in various ways and that should all be spelled out in plain english with links to forms and someone watching those forms.

Draft project onboarding letter

As folks sign up to open projects, we should send them a welcome letter. This will talk about what they can expect and next steps. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSelmK_uJPdNL4UgBTibRI67GO4NnzeUi-vLDaMGJUIXNZ_JEw/viewform?usp=sf_link

what else does a project person need to know?

remove Thomas price from the leadership roster

Thomas never responded in a meaningful way to several attempts to wrangle him in. We should remove him from things like:

  • the leaders roster
  • private planning group
  • github leader roster
  • google drive

Website overhaul

Site TODO:

  • Theme/style
  • Landing Page ?
    • Images, graphics
  • Project Page
    • Project Card Component
  • About Page ?
  • Sponsor Page
    • Sponsor Card Component
  • Header
  • Footer
  • Navbar

Sync Leadership team roster

we have some new leaders and we should update the leadership team lists

  • the web site docs/index.md
  • the sponsor letter
  • other?

Create a github pages site for this repo

hosting the web site should be pretty streight forward using github pages and a \docs folder on the master branch. start with a simple index.md page in the /docs folder and turn on github pages

fix typos on the web site.

noticed a few typos on the /docs/index.md that are embarrassing. if someone wants to fix those, go for it. doing a PR is best, and If you need help with that, ask around!

Food

Collaborators gotta eat!
Luckily Trifoia is in the same building as some great restaurants.
if we take our budget and cap the attendees we can get everyone fed in style.

draft volunteer onboarding letter

As folks sign up to volunteer, we should send them a welcome letter. This will talk about what they can expect and next steps. check out the eventprite signup for more info

  • join the ET slack
  • follow the event on facebook
  • etc?

draft onboardling letter for programming

move everything to december 14-15th

unfortunately the Nov 30th date is right on top of the annual mozilla all-hands. So that cuts out our local mozillians. the best date for them is dec 14-15th. That also buys us some more time.

clearly explain what programming looks like

from the slack

I want to be there and make this a part of my plan but I can't be in the plan, is that a thing? I feel like I filled out something already but I can't remember now
But I'd love to talk about open curriculum, open learning platforms for kids

Yes!! we should chat about that. Is there a way to have you be an EWIT rep, like community sponsor. I was thinking EWIT could be a community sponsor on this and I was just gonna rep that there ๐Ÿ˜Š. We can have maybe a table, you bring things, talk about the projects: bots, hour of code as a part of EWIT. Just random thoughts

Or you could submit a program? Then you get some session or breakout time? I think CS/tech education is really valid and being able to share programs in the Open would ease the burden of districts trying to come up with a program, especially those more rural districts which are reaalllyyy struggling with $$$. (edited)

what you are describing is Programming and thanks for signing up! We really need to clearify what that means to you and we can go down that path together. Sharing that story will help other folks understand. I'm around after 3:30 today if you want to meet IRL and Walk thru it
