I'm seeing some kerning issues with mactype. I was previously using gdipp and
it rendered fonts with better kerning (minor issues, but overall better). I've
tried different settings to get close to gdipp's rendering but never succeeded.
I'm not sure whether it's a setting problem or some deeper difference between
gdipp and mactype. I'm attaching screenshots as well as configurations.

Hello,
As I know, MacType uses patched fontconfig and freetype2, which is originally
used in most modern Linux distributions.
Could you please release the patch of fontconfig and freetype2, along with
configuration tools for Linux?
I am sorry that this may cost you much more time and energy, but it will really
be a good news for Linux users.
BTW: I have tried infinality's freetype2 patch, but it is not compatible with
some software and causes problems. :-(

Everything is seen on the first screenshot: the unicode strikethrough symbol
isn’t rendered properly (for example Georgia font (like on screenshot),
Lucida Grande etc.).
This problem does not reproduce in all fonts: cf. screenshot 2 with Tahoma
font—there it’s rendered closer to normal (still not perfectly).
Also, I think that it’s unlikely that the problem is only with one symbol,
perhaps there is some class of symbols which do all fail

I'm new to MacType and had to play with the settings a bit to get things to
look fairly right. All is well in Chrome except for some crazy shadows in the
address bar.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Configure MacType to render text with a light, close shadow, such as by
using the configuration below.
2. Go to any page other than a website's home page, such as by manually
entering a URL in the address bar, like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeType
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
All text in the address bar should look the same. Instead, the non-domain-name
parts of URL are rendered with the incorrect shadow. It appears to be too dark
and offset in the opposite direction.

This is more of a feature request than an issue, feel free to close it if you
want! It would be nice if MacType would automatically disable it's font
rendering when connected to a machine via Remote Desktop Connection (RDP). As
it stands right now, you have to disable MacType manually when using RDP. It's
no huge deal, but would be nice to improve the RDP experience on a lower speed
connection. Not all people might want this, so maybe a setting would be even
better? :)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
View text that includes small fonts and the "w" letter (YouTube on Chrome,
default settings for example).
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Kerning is incorrect, the "w" letter looks like it has a space following it.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2012_0406 on Windows 7 x64.
Please provide any additional information below.
Please see attached screenshot. Green boxes show correct kerning while red
boxes show the issue. Especially notice "views" on the green box and "views" on
the red box.
This issue existed in gdipp as well.

UI and content text should be rendered with Freetype.
>What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
UI and content are not rendered with Freetype (i.e. no anti-aliasing)

As a long-time user of gdipp, I've been limited to using Chrome 17.0.963.83 in
order for text to be smoothed.
This version of Chrome is getting a little old now, so I decided to transition
from gdipp to Mactype, due to the 'Support Chrome 18+' claim on the project
homepage.
After spending a little time adjusting the various settings to match the
appearance of my gdipp configuration, I was satisfied with the results.
However it appears that the UI and content text are not actually smoothed.
May I therefore ask if MacType does actually support Chrome 18+ on Windows XP?
Thanks!

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open MS Office Word 2013.
2. Write and check they way fonts are rendered.
3. Now go to font settings, check the preview of fonts.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
When you check with mouse the blurried, miss-rendered text and go to font
settings, you are going to see at preview section font is looking as it should
be while the in-document looking of the same font is ugly.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
MacType is latest. Office 2013 on Win 7. (All updates are done)
Please provide any additional information below.
I didn't checked it with other Office versions so I do not know if this is a
general issue or dedicated to 2013 version.
