protoboard's Issues

Derrivative work

Hello Electroniceel!

Thank you for making such a great prototyping board :-)

I've got a question about using your protoboard design in a small run of boards for an event we're organising. We plan on handing them out as nametags/badges with a prototyping area.

How would you like to be credited? Is a mention on the page on our website about the board okay with you or would you like to be mentioned in the silkscreen of the board itself?

Greetings,
Renze Nicolai

JLCPCB order denied

Hello and thanks for the excellent protoboard designs. I tried to order the "protoboard-6x4-breakout" from JLCPCB, but the order was denied:
order cancelled

Were you able to order this through JLCPCB before?

Add hole diameter to README

Hello,

After receiving the boards from Elecrow, I've noticed that the holes are smaller in diameter than the regular 2.54 mm pitch perfboard/protoboard. Most of the components I use do fit, an exception are 5.08 mm pitch terminal blocks - those do fit on a normal protoboard I have.

If I managed to figure it out correctly (installed KiCad for the first time), it seems that your lovely boards have holes drilled 0.8 mm. Would be nice to mention this in the README.

Thanks
Gene

Fix description for 6x4 boards

Hi

The description for 6x4 boards (gerber/README.md) says: "Roughly sized 6x4cm each"
In fact there are two ~6x4cm boards and one ~8x4cm board per each 10x10 PCB.

Thanks for the project, the boards from Elecrow just came and they look great and super useful. Elecrow told me I have to pay extra 15 USD for the castellated holes (the adapters).

Take care!

ESP32?

Thinking of ordering a bunch of protoboards to keep around because they seem to be generally useful, but also I have one concrete use, which would include an esp-wroom-32 (2mm raster!). Has anyone ever used a similar package on that protoboard layout?

One thing people do is this, which would obviously work. Just wondering if there is any concrete example for this layout, especially one that would use less vertical space than the below method.

FR: More IC package adapters

Hi! So my package from China has arrived and I've been playing with the boards a little. Somehow I managed to solder a couple of things onto them with an old, huge ERSA MultiTip C15 without making any unwanted connections. Nice. The IC adapters are a little finnicky but can also be made to work with a bit of practice.

One thing that makes me a little sad though: no SSOP (up to 28 pins, i.e. FTDI232), nor QFP (also up to 28 pins, i.e. CP2102 or even up to 64 pins, i.e. ADS1296), nor SON (i.e. the 10-pin TPS63031 or the wide 12-pin LM27762 which are both pretty cool), nor BGA (another nice TI chip as an example, the 12-pin LM3686).

I realize there's a myriad of packages out there and each takes a lot of work, but perhaps at some point there'll be enough interest that an adapter-only board variant might be warranted... :)

Board outline files missing or empty

Attempted to get a quote from https://jlcpcb.com by uploading the zipped gerbers, but the process seemed to fail with no board preview shown. I tried using OSHPark which produced some error messages:

I tried w/ the 5x3 and 10x5 protoboards with the same basic result.

Software for "place and route" / making layouts?

Hi,

thanks for your great project!

Is there a software (FLOSS, Linux) to help with layouts using these protoboards? Maybe there is a way to use Kicads PCBnew somehow? For standard protoboards (2,54mm) i sometimes just switch the grid to 2,54mm in this program and it works okay, but your boards are more "complex"...

A suitable tool would be a great addition to these files.

BTW and for information: I ordered 10 of the "big" (10x10cm) boards with thickness 0,8mm (iirc) and standard HASL from JLC and they processed the order just fine (somewhere in 2023).

Have a great new year!
