Both checksums now end up in /tmp/ck8s-base-vm-checksums/baseos_sha256.checksums, which is a bit confusing. It would be better if they have separate files.

Well, to stay cutting egde we should upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04.

It was decided at the last architecture meeting to try to publish the BaseOS image as a public image to the cloud providers that we support.

Find out what is needed to make VM images publicly available on Exoscale, Safespring, CityCloud and AWS. Publish the image and document the procedure. Bonus: automate this procedure.

When installing on existing infrastructure its much harder to know that the machines are compatible with our installations. We should have some way to test that the machines are compatible. For example checking that the OS is correct. There could probably be added more of these tests that we can run before starting the install.

Perhaps also checking that some paths / tools are installed but that some paths /etc/kube* does not exist and that system services or docker is not already running etc. Kubelet.service

The known issue with relative paths has been resolved in packer. We should check that the fix works and update the code/docs to reflect.

As the name indicates the goal of this task is to build a base image for kubernetes V1.19.
