wrf-downscaling's Issues

Run WRF forward for two years

This will be required to

  • assess workflow, connection with BioCro
  • produce maps that can be used to demonstrate high resolution crop model runs
  • assess value of running BioCro on 2, 6, 18km grids

Review settings with Brian

Directories on Stampede (#8)

Questions:

  • how to set output variables (#4)?
  • how to deal with longer-term runs (many files)?
  • should diffusion be on (#5)?

Write script to convert wrf output to CF-convention

Before starting, please spend some time googling to see if there is already a solution implemented, and indicate "yes", "no", or "yes, but ..."

What I would like to have is a script to convert output from WRF downscaling runs in Brazil to the CF-compliant PEcAn standard inputs.

We need these variables (see definitions, units here on the PEcAn wiki

  • air_temperature,
  • air_pressure,
  • specific_humidity,
  • precipitation_flux,
  • surface_downwelling_shortwave_flux_in_air,

Our first example files are on biocluster: /home/groups/ebimodeling/wrf/brazil/wrfout*

There are three nested domains (d0[123]), defined

We need a script that would combine these output files into a single file (if possible) chunked in timeseries, as before. The script should work for an arbitrary number of days.

Create map of met domains, area cultivated (now, future), and ethanol plants

  1. BP's ethanol plants (name, lat, lon) (based on BP's Brazilian website)
    • BP Biofuels Ituiutaba -19.01,-49.67
    • Usina BP Biocombustiveis -18.52,-49.36
    • Tropical Bioenergia S.A. -17.68,-50.11
  2. Met scaling domains
    • d01. lat -28.5 to -7.56 lon -61.48, -36.52
    • d02. lat -13.53 to -23.11, lon -54.84 to -43.16
    • d03. lat -16.77 to -19.67, lon: -50.74 to -47.20
  3. The present-day sugarcane producing regions in Brazil
    • Something like this: ftp://geoftp.ibge.gov.br/mapas_tematicos/mapas_murais/cana_2005.pdf
    • data are probably in here: ftp://geoftp.ibge.gov.br/mapas_tematicos/mapas_murais/shapes/

error with ungrib.exe

@brightfan reports this error when trying to run ungrib.exe:

*** Starting program ungrib.exe ***
Start_date =  1987-09-30_12:00:00 ,      End_date = 1987-09-30_18:00:00
output format is WPS
Path to intermediate files is ./
ERROR: Grib2 file or date problem, stopping in edition_num.

In order for Scott to assist, this issue should be updated with:

  • description of exactly what it is you are trying to do,
  • the namelist.wps (can be copy/pasted to a gist or committed to the repository)
  • output from ls -l on the directory,
