I have to seed and work with a big database (about a million rows). Unsurprisingly, the seed task is incredibly slow. A rough estimate puts the seed time at about 3 hours. I need to figure out how to refactor the code to increase efficiency. I'm exploring different options now, but I would certainly be open to any advice.

The gem I'm using hasn't been updated in years and is pretty buggy. It was supposed to parse a lot of the xml I'm using. It works inconsistently. I spent hours trying to fix it, but as soon as I fixed one problem, another problem would pop up. Now, I have to use Nokogiri to do it myself. I know how to do it, it's just annoying. That's all...

Right now it just checks an umpire's calls if the API description returns "Ball" or "Called Strike". Sometimes it can return "Ball in Dirt".
