@jagtalon I don't think this is really necessary. It would mean that the startup time for duckpan server, and duckpan query would be considerably longer.

For Spice development, seeing as the dependencies rarely change it seems unnecessary to check them every time. For goodies however, where they change more often, I think it's just better for the developer to wait until the dependencies change and then run duckpan installdeps as needed.

I agree with @moollaza that the startup time is really important to keep to an absolute minimum. An extra second makes a big difference when you're calling it constantly.

That said, I agree that the process should be smoother @jagtalon. How about just handling it when the problem occurs? Check out my pull request here: #56.

Closing this. The new dependency handling makes it much easier for devs now that DuckPAN doesn't simply halt when deps are missing. They are also notified of what they need to install and which IA's require those deps.
