I was unable to generate a war file of my project using avatar plugin with grails 2.0 and groovy 1.8.4. I got the following error:

[/PATH/.grails/2.0.0/projects/MYPROJECT/plugins/tomcat-2.0.0/scripts/_Events.groovy] The Spock compiler plugin could not run because Spock 0.5.0-groovy-1.7 is not compatible with Groovy 1.8.4. For more information, see http://versioninfo.spockframework.org
Spock location: file:/PATH/.grails/ivy-cache/org.spockframework/spock-core/jars/spock-core-0.5-groovy-1.7.jar

I fixed it with:

plugins{
test "org.grails.plugins:code-coverage:1.2.4"
test('org.spockframework:spock-core:0.5-groovy-1.8') {
export = false
}
}
