Of course! Consider having a glance at the freeablo project, which implements modern program practices and cross platform support. Perhaps that would be a good base to build on.

I don't think you should forking this repo for other full fledged projects - tried to make own mod but the code is lots of mess and plenty of unfinished parts. We should make this thing compile into whole thing first and document it.
