Hi! Can you run vanilla Diablo under wine just fine? I'm still trying to figure out how to properly implement the critical section constructors. They must be initialized before WinMain is ever executed, and the only way I could find was by using structs:
struct engine_cpp_init
init();
Some compilers won't include this in the CRT so the sections are NULL when being read, causing the crash.

Yes I am able to run the vanilla Diablo with wine. Do you have any tips or
anything I could try to produce to help? My C/C++ knowledge is very limited
so must have this has been trial and error.

Lundar was having the same issue as you, and was able to fix it with a temporary remedy by calling the constructors in the WinMain (https://github.com/galaxyhaxz/devilution/pull/38).
However, they should be called during the CRT, which is a mystery to me why some compilers don't seem to factor that in. Both Mingw and Visual Studio 5-2017 have been tested and report success.
