I suppose that would be neat (slay demons while at work no?). But no, I planned on keeping everything as it is. Lower level languages (barring assembly) tend to have a broader range of platform support. We'll definitely have a native Linux build of Diablo long before the game is written in java. Especially since many parts require a higher level of access to the system that would need a rewrite.

Edit: with that said, there could be a possibility of porting to the Go language in the future. But that's probably going to be done by those versed in the language who have written various mods and tools.

As an aside, you can compile C/C++ to webassembly or javascript both via emscripten, so that could be added to the toolchain later with the appropriate shims.
