The section about severances should be modified to cover any separation agreement, regardless of whether severance is involved. There should also be a note to contact an attorney if you have questions. Many clauses have become unenforceable and yet remain in the boilerplate text used in many agreements.

I would strongly suggest a "Take a Break" step after it happens.

Layoffs can be stressful. If one can afford the time off, take some, even if it's just a couple days. You've probably been working for a few years, it's a good time to touch grass since your next job may have less liberal PTO. Go for a hike, or go on a short inexpensive vacation. Obviously consider your budget, since there's no paycheck coming in, and your urgency may vary for starting something new.

COBRA benefits do not work in situations when a company goes under.

The insurance company will gladly take your premium check but not tell you that you have no health insurance under COBRA when an employer no longer exists to pay employee insurance premiums.
