crx-reload-tab's Issues

Update to Manifest v3

Hello,

Firstly, I want to thank you for taking the time to create this extension and make it public.

I'm curious if there are plans to release a new update that aligns with Manifest v3 standards? If so, that would be fantastic.

Thank you.

Icon disappears after install and never show up.

I install the extension, the icon pops up saying its installed, then disappears while the other extensions stay. This prevents the usage of this extension on web site as there is no way to force the icon to show back up.

Tried on chromium and brave browser.

Update: Found a workaround. On brave, click on the puzzle icon, move the mouse down to the extension and click on it.

Timer stops if you close the browser tab and reopen it again unlike other timer apps

Hi!

I really enjoy this timer app. Unfortunately if you close the browser page where the timer is active and reopen it again, the timer is not running anymore, unlike other timer apps that I tested that keep running on that page if i reopen that page again. This is especially useful if I need to see other pages and come back or if the browser crashes and I have to reload everything again / power outage and browsers closes

Maybe you can add this functionality so it can keep the timer running on the page even if you close the tab and reopen it again.

Thank you!

[Feature Request] Custom Range for Refresh Interval Time

Hi, would it be possible to add a custom refresh range that would refresh a tab at a random interval between a minimum and maximum range that we set? Like if we set it to every 5 to 10 minutes, it could refresh at 5 minutes 18 seconds, 7 minutes 53 seconds, 9 minutes 25, etc.

Thank you for making this! It's great having an auto-refresher that I can trust.

[Inquiry] Keyboard detection

Hello,

Could you please confirm whether this script includes keyboard detection? To clarify, if I'm reloading a tab (for example, domain.com), and I navigate to that tab and begin typing, will the extension continue to reload the tab or will it cease reloading due to keyboard activity?

Thank you.

New feature: Persist auto-refresh after the browser is restarted

Some users might like to keep one tab always auto-refreshing, even after restarting the browser.

In order to implement this feature, I have to investigate if it is possible to save some kind of identifier of a tab into local storage, then use that identifier to reload the auto-refresh timer after the browser is restarted.

Timer stops working sometimes on wake-up from sleep

I had a bug pop up where I previously slept my computer with Chrome open and a tab reloading actively as I slept the computer. When I woke it up the timer didn't show any numbers re: reload duration (as expected from previous repros) but I was also completely unable to start the timer again with any durations. Clicking a duration or entering a manual one had no effect on the timer

Turning the extension on and off via Chrome settings fixed this issue, but I assume this is some sort of intermittent bug related to sleeping.

Badge text color oddity

Recently, something has changed... somewhere... looking at the source here, clearly it's not here, but after a recent Chrome update, the text color for the icon badge has become something dark and unreadable instead of the lighter color. This extension is the only one that is having this issue for me. I'm not sure how this is happening, as I checked the browserAction.setBadgeText function in the Chrome docs, and it still does not support setting the text color (Firefox does, but all other browsers, including Chrome, does not). So ya, not sure how to explain that. It doesn't make the extension unusable, but it is inconvenient not being able to easily see the time remaining until refresh.

Screenshot showing auto-refresh, tampermonkey, and ublock origin icons all with badges, with the TM and UBO icons showing correct white badge text, and this showing dark. Note that while it looks very clear and readable in this image, it is nowhere near that readable on my actual screen.

Edit to add: Looks like this might be Chrome breakage, this is a possibly related issue:
https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/164964343/chrome-extensions-have-black-dark-box-and-text-for-notifications?hl=en
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1321962

Supposedly this was fixed in a Chrome refresh that came out in the last couple of days (102.0.5005.115, which I have installed), and it would appear to be related to code that is attempting to auto adjust the badge text color to account for contrast with various badge backgrounds. Obviously, of course this is not fixed, and I'm not sure it will be fixed in 103 as this thread would seem to indicate, so you might want to adjust the background color to ensure that the contrast is usable. I will keep this thread updated whether this is still an issue when 103 eventually comes out, if it hasn't been addressed manually by then.

New feature: pause/stop auto-reloading if the user interacts with the page

When the user interacts with the page, it might be desirable to prevent the auto-reloading in order to not disrupt whatever the user is doing.

Interacting could be something lightweight (such as clicking or using the keyboard) or something more involved (changing any form field value, interacting with any button or checkbox).

Such feature would require full access to the page content, so care must be taken to address privacy concerns, to request the minimum access possible, and to avoid having any performance impact.

I'm still not sure if this feature should be implemented, but I'm taking note here.

Countdown badge?

Hey @denilsonsa beautiful extension! :-D

If I set the timer to 20min, it shows 20 on the badge but doesn't actually count down.

It would be nice if it could countdown so I can see directly how much time is left.

What you think? .-)
