The following is outstanding (not a complete list):

• Close panes with a shortcut (right now I need to type in exit which won't work if the pane is dead because of a rogue process)
• Set a decent colour for Tmux windows (something like my vim status line looks). For a decent icons mapping check bumblebee-status.

Finish it up cause iTerm2 is vvv slow

tmux-powerline is deprecated; powerline supports tmux and seemingly provides more functionality and requires less awkward hax to integrate it.

Not sure about performance but it seems to be a good idea to give powerline a shot. Do note that you're not using powerline in vim because of performance concerns (they may be resolved already).
