What are the benefits of using unit tests for this task compared to static analysis/linting?

In order to improve performance, we should check whether the current implementation traverses into external dependencies, and stop traversing if it does.
This is not required, since we are only interested in enforcing rules for internal package structures.

How do we communicate errors? Fail on last call? Return nil?

Support checking of not using specific functions / classes of packages, e.g.,"do not use fmt.Prinln", but some logging library instead.
