fix repository links on web

We got a report from slack of broken links on the website that need to be fixed:

Max Czapanskiy:

10:39 AM
Hello 👋:skin-tone-2:. Is this the right place to address issues with the DataONE website pertaining to member repos?

10:42
I noticed the current member repositories page has a bunch of broken links. For example, the PANGAEA homepage link has an extra space at the end, so it leads to a 404 page. And the homepage icon under NOAA NCEI Environmental Data Archive isn’t actually a link at all.

I replied that we would look into it and get them fixed.

2023 OBFS workshop

We have an opportunity to run a workshop at OBFS this year that targets field stations. It's in Costa Rica, which would be really fun too (although probably expensive travel)! We could do so on a variety of different topics, but some that come to mind including:

  • DataONE portals for field stations
  • Hosted Repositories for field stations
  • training from our data science short course curricula
  • .... other ideas?

Workshop proposals are due March 1st. See announcement below.

The Annual Meeting program committee is working with this year’s site hosts, the Organization of Tropical Studies at La Selva, Costa Rica, to develop our next exciting meeting. Sept 12-17, 2023.

The designated workshop day is Sept 13, 2023. In the past, when many workshops have been proposed, we have extended the workshop schedule a day earlier, in this case Sept 12, 2023. But we need to plan logistics for these activities early.

If you are interested in running a workshop, please use the link below to put in a proposal. This will take you to a simple Google Form and you can provide details of your idea there. Don’t be shy. Field stations are microcosms of great ideas. Yours might make a compelling workshop. Due date March 1. Program committee will review and contact proposers in mid to late March.

Workshop Proposal Form. Due March 1.

Feel free to contact me with questions.

See you in La Selva! Nitido!

2022 communication campaign

In the remainder of 2022 and 2023, we'd like to design and initiate a new communications campaign to reflect new growth in the network, the services we offer, and the advances made by our members. This ticket serves as an organizational vehicle for that campaign, which could also consist of one or more related tickets. Some of the current campaign ideas include:

  • Announcements(s) of the new members in the DataONE Network
  • Communications about the Hosted Repository and DataONE Plus portals services to potential clients
    • Target: field stations, libraries, and small agency groups needing repository services
    • Goal: measurable and sustained growth in subscriptions to these services
  • Communications to recruit new schema.org members
  • Newsletter -- reinvigorated and reimagined
  • Highlights from new advances in the DataONE member network (possibly part of the newsletter)
  • Social media postings about these items above and others, with a more consistent presence there

... and more, please add ideas.
