This is seemingly down to how the respective JDBC driver does its work.

With Derby, the first call to rs.next() on the ResultSet, at this line


is taking maybe 2+ seconds on my machine.

With H2 the first call to rs.next() at that line is rapid. Instead H2 takes longer in the ps.executeQuery() call (hence the "SQL Execution Time" is larger ... which is basically a measure of ps.executeQuery).

Suggest that there is not much that DataNucleus can do about that, unless you can convince me otherwise
