Our Vision

  • Our vision is to make the dogs Harmonize with the player throughout the game, like two hands on the piano, when the two sound come together, it produce a harmony, which is pleasant to the ear, the Player and the Dogs is like the two hands, the dog should be able to be an accompaniment to the player well while not be overpowered in the context, although when on-demand, the Dog can have those abilities, but he should work to get it, and you, the Player, should help training him to achieve the abilities.

FAQ

  • Q: Are dogs no longer immortal?
    A: Unlike the old versions, dog is not immortal by default, you can link them to a bed and they will respawn there. However, if you want immortal dogs, you can still enable the feature in your world. Visit Immortal Dogs for more info.
  • Q: I have a wolf, how to get started?
    A: Use a Training Treat to turn him into a DoggyTalents Dog. Visit the Getting Started wiki for more info.

Custom Textures not appearing

I am so sorry I just can't find anywhere else to ask.
There was no doggytalents folder under assets so I made one myself, along with the following folders in the path. I named the one I'm experimenting with 'doggytex28' and it isn't showing up in game. I have no idea what I'm doing, this is my first time with this sort of thing.

I've tried other names too, including doggytex$NUM$ exactly. I've tried it with an actual number, I've even tried adding .png to the end of the name (I full knew that would not work)
What am I supposed to be doing here?

I also apologize for the lack of labels, I think the layout changed and the location to add labels (i.e bug, etc) is not immediately obvious to me.

Texture of the dogs mismatch

Hi, i use latest version of the mod and one of the dog textures repeats two times. Because of that i have one more dog with broken texture that i can not replace. Can you please help me with that? I will provide everything that you need to fix this problem.

Dogs turn into Ticking Entities

I've been having my worlds crash for no reason for a few days now and all of the crash reports have been about Ticking Entities, which were all from my doggies coming from this mod. First one happened after having played in that world for about 2 weeks and the other happened just after a few hours. I opened another world to test again and after summoning a dog, 5 minute passes and my world crashes again. I love my doggies so I hope theres a way to fix this :(

i tried feeding the dog cake but it doesnt seem like they are being revived by it and nothing else worked i dont know how to revive it, using 1.19.4

Immortal dogs

Hello, I tried for 2 hours to search what did you change for bringing back immortal dogs, I didn't managed to understand, can you please do the same or at least explain me how to do the same on the 1.18.2 version of the mod? Please ;-;

Armor / inventory / training glitch.

Love the mod. I've played it since around 1.7. Thanks for keeping it going! We have a 3 person 1.19.3 server. We each have dogs.

Running Forge 44.1.0
DTN version 1.8.1

Each of us experiences the armor, inventory and talent menu glitching at different times. It sometimes changes with restarts, portals and death. The glitch is a reversion to the dog with no talents and 15 points to train even though the talents are there and there are no points. No armor is visible no inventory is available even though they are there when the glitch clears. The skin choice stays and armor level shows in the glitched training menu.

Also, when the inventory is available the inventory button comes and goes when opening and closing the crafting book. Can't leave the book closed if I want the dog inventory button.

We're still playing through the bugs and enjoying the mod. We like your vision!

Radio collar crash [1.20.1]

Using Doggy Talents Next version 1.16.3 on mc version 1.20.1
A crash occurs when trying to craft the radio collar, and the achievement for the collar that plays when you have the materials to make a collar are bugged

My bed clones dogs and the conducting bone doesn't work

I have a dog with his assigned bed (He made the animation on the bed), when I click on the bed a duplicate of my dog appears and the conducting bone only works to bring the dog with me, but it does not work to go to bed.

Vanishing dog after server crash

This has happened twice, once on a 1.19.3 server a while back and just now on our 1.20.1 server. On 1.19.3, the dog was riding in a boat with the player, in 1.20.1 the dog was riding in a Eureka Airship with the player. Both times the dog was riding on another entity.

The server crashed, and when everyone got back the dog was gone. All other entities were accounted for. It seems to exist on the creative radar but when we get to the location it is invisible and undetectable. Whistle doesn't work. Can't respawn it because it is not dead, can't use the conducting bone because it gives an error "ALREADYREQUESTORLOADED". Global kill command doesn't seem to kill it for respawning. The dog is just in limbo as a UID and a name with no entity... and unreachable. On 1.19.3 we gave up and created a new dog. But that dog non entity never left the server. It was always there. Now in the 1.20.1 server we are facing the same choice. By coincidence, both times the dog's name was "Luna". The 1.20.1 "Luna" was a revival of the one that was lost in 1.19.3. It is ironic.

Is there anything else that can be done?

Small Issue

For some reason it is telling me if there is an issue loading the mod. I have taken out all my mods and tried again and I still get the same error.

Doggy Talents Ticking Entity Crashing Server

I host a server and what happened is that one of my members was messing around with a creature called from Alex's Mobs and what we believe happened it that a doggy talents dog got the ender flu from it. I will leave a report on both mod pages but this is the crash report. The crash report states that it is a Doggy Talents error. The server is not recoverable despite several kill all commands and removal of all effects.

if possible can the doggy torch skill be changed to light level 0 or 1 even instead of it placing on light 7 pls since mobs no longer spawn on 7 but will from below 1 pretty pls

2 issues in 1

basically when using the doggy food bowl the dogs wont eat from it at all no matter wat food is put into it or their happy eater skill level

and seems you can just continuosly spam feed the dogs even when u shouldnt be able to

[Feature Request] Make food bowl visually indicated if food is in it

Feature request summary:
I would like the dog food bowls to have a visual indication, if food is in them or not.

Feature request description:
Currently a food bowl always (with food in it or without food in it) shows brown dog food in it. MY feature request is, that if it is empty, it also shows as empty (no brown dog food in it).

Feature request reason:
This would save time checking if food is available in one or several bowls or not. And it actually would saves a lot of time.

Additional detail:
A visual indicator on how much food is in the bowl. Like the visuals of a composter.

Skill points

Hai, how can I add more skill points to dog in creative mod

Dog dissappears after logging off while riding boat

I disconnected while riding a boat with my dog. After joining the server again, the dog was gone. The radar points to the spot where I initially logged out and the conducting bone does not work for it. Both items recognize the dog exists and it still owns a bed.

Minecraft Version: 1.19.2
Mod version: 1.11.2

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Set a boat somewhere in the world
  2. Get the dog to ride the boat by making it walk close to it
  3. Ride the boat
  4. Disconnect / Save and quit
  5. Join the world again

Dog Bed not functioning at all

Self-explanatory. I've had no success getting the beds to work. Any attempts just result with the instructions appearing in my chat log.

To rule out incompatibilities, I've tested in a single player game, no other mods installed. Minecraft version 1.19.2, Forge version 43.2.14.

I have a properly treated dog standing right next to the bed.
No armor on my avatar, no weapons equipped, both hands emptied.

Expected result: the dog wanders over to the bed and claims it as its own.

And yet, it's just more instructional messages.

I picked up the mod so I would feel better having dogs as companions without death being as large of a consequence. But if I can't get the basic function of the beds to work, I may have to hold off for a while.

Added many new languages.

Can you add more new languages?
This will be great as many people in different countries can experience the best.

dogs don't breed

How can I add a new model for wolf?

Hello, I hope it is not inconvenient.
I would like to know how it would be possible to add a new wolf model for a new breed of dog, I tried to add it on my own without success. I'm new to this yet.

Chests on dogs are still visible when config settings are false.

The config toggle for the pack puppy chests does not make the chests disappear. I tried using the config both though the file and though a mod (forge config screens) to make sure i did everything correct.

I am currently playing the latest version, 1.20.1-1.17.2, with no other mods except for "Better Dogs for DNT." and "Forge Config Screens".

Dog Armor color of armor does not match armor that was used

Hello! Love this mod and appreciate all the work that goes into it.

When putting armor on my dog via the Guard Dog talent (if I remember right), I noticed the armor defaults to look like Iron armor regardless of the armor actually used. Would it be possible to have it correctly display the color of the armor?

If possible, could this include new armor from mods as well?

Armor tried: Leather (Vanilla/Not Dyed), Obsidian (Mo'Shizz)
Skins: Default (Vanilla), skin #71 from the texture pack (white wolf with blue eyes)

Mod textures

Hey, I'm ZhilBear, texture artist for the old mod.

I did the dog textures for RaustBlackDragon way back and I was wondering if these are still being used in this new port. If so, could I get artist's credits on Curseforge? I've always been rather proud of those textures and I love to see the project receive a new life :)

Game froze, force stopped it, dog was erased after loading up

 Description: I was running at night with my dog who was behind me placing torches automatically (level 5), and suddenly I was the only one who could move and nothing else, the entire game froze, as well as my dog (next to him newly placed torch). I force closed the game, and when I loaded back the game and my world, I was placed couple of minutes (5-10min) in past with my dog completely gone. I went to the place where my game froze, and there was no dog there either. I completely lost him.

I am using this mod in my Better MC+ modpack for 1.19.2 as well as couple of added mods as well. Biomes are Biomes o plenty and Terralift. So I don't know what biome or block this happened on because there is too much of new ones.

Conductor Wand not in mod

My dogs are where I last teleported from and I don't know where that is. I've searched the mod in creative and there is no conductor bone to recall them to me. Also, the whistle doesn't open the GUI when I "Shift + Rt Click".

Issue Description:

After upgrading from 1.18.2 to 1.19.2, the dog beds for Biomes O Plenty's woods do not appear anymore, the game complains that their missing in the registry and their textures are black and pink.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Upgrade from 1.18.2 to 1.19.2
  2. Upgrade all respective mods for 1.19.2
  3. Open world from 1.18.2 (or create a world in 1.19.2)
  4. Bug occurs

[Feature Request] Portable Doggy Carrier

Disclaimer: I am copy/pasting a post I made on the original Doggy Talents mod's github back in 2020. I still think this is a good idea and would love to see it impleented. (Also cause there are no mods that can transport the dog entity without it getting stuck in said transporting item)

"Ever since the 1.2.5 days, I've always wanted a way to carry my dogs around if need be. Not having to use the Bed Finder skill to get them on my head. I want to be able to carry them through portals and over long distances with little bother. Yes, I know boats can seat two entities so crossing an ocean isn't an issue and yes, you can push you dog through portals but I've always feared I might just lose them to some glitch. What if I'm teleporting using Xaero's Minimap/World Map? Will my dog be able to follow without issue every time? What if my dog is about to die while I'm running from way too many cave spiders? I want to be able to scoop up my precious cargo and book it to the next county if need be."

Also, since you seem to be a big Okami fan (so am I), the "doggy carrier" could be a loyalty orb. :)

Wiki does not say how to drop carried, incapacitated dog

Dog got incpacitated, I picked it up with a bone, like described in the wiki. Now I am at home, in a safe place, the dog bed at the ready but for the love of the universe I can not figure out how to drop the dog into the bed.

Can you please update the wiki, so it tells the following:

  1. How to drop a carried, incapacitated dog on the ground.
  2. How to drop a carried, incapacitated dog into a dog bed.

bug with beds

if i understand how the beds are supposed to work for the dogs they should just use the dogs that are assigned to the bed but they dont they basically respawn a duplicate version of the dog instead of just the one its assigned to

texture addons through server

I've been wanting to use mods for a while now, and was finally able to set up a server to do so with friends. I wanted to add my own texture for the coats of the dogs, but I cannot find the assets folder. All of my mods are through the server instead of in a folder on my computer. I am using serverminer, does anyone else use this and can they help me find this folder? Thanks! :)

Like the title, the dogs go to their old bed spot when you use the whistle. This happens when I move the beds, and I have no idea how to fix it (1.18.2)
