server-side-google-analytics's Introduction

Description

Server Side Google Analytics (SSGA) is a simple PHP 5 class, which allows to track server-side events and data within Google Analytics.

Drop-in solution for WordPress plugins (uses the WP HTTP API if available).

Usage

Google Analytics Server Side can be used simply in the following manner:

Easy:

ssga_track( 'UA-YOUR_NUMBER', 'yoursite.com', '/page.php' )

Advanced:

//create new ssga object
include 'lib/ss-ga.class.php';
$ssga = new ssga( 'UA-YOUR_NUMBER', 'yoursite.com' );

//Set a pageview
$ssga->set_page( '/page.php' );
$ssga->set_page_title( 'Page Title' );

// Send
$ssga->send();
$ssga->reset();

Set an event (based on http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/tracking/eventTrackerGuide.html)

//$ssga as created above
$ssga->set_event( 'Feed', 'Categories', $label, $value );
$ssga->send();

Ecommerce tracking (update and test by @nczz)

$ssga_step1 = new ssga( 'UA-12345678-1','domain.tw' );
//$transaction_id, $affiliation, $total, $tax, $shipping, $city, $region, $country
$ssga_step1->send_transaction("20159527001", "MXP", 280, 0, 80,"Taiwan", "", "TW");

$ssga_step2 = new ssga( 'UA-12345678-1','domain.tw' );
//$transaction_id, $sku, $product_name, $variation, $unit_price, $quantity
$ssga_step2->send_item("20159527001", "1229001", "TEST-PRODUCT", "", 50, 4);

server-side-google-analytics's Issues

tracking USER_ID

I want to be able to push the user id to ga (so ga can distinguish between new and old visitors).

Normally in JS it would be along the lines of

 ga('create', 'UA-XXXXXX-Y', {'userId': USER_ID});
  ga('send', 'pageview');

How can I modify the constructor to be able to do this?

Tracking Conversion Country

The class works good for sending page view to Google Analytics, thus tracking a conversion from a JSONP widget.

Having trouble with tracking the country the page view had which in turn helps determine which country the conversion came from.

Not sure how to go about this and if possible?

ssga_track( 'UA-YOUR_NUMBER', 'yoursite.com', '/page.php' )

Pageviews not tracking, only visitors

Hi there! First of all thanks for sharing this nice and simple library for server-side GA.

I do have one question. When I trigger the following code:

$ssga->set_page( '/calls/Education_level.php' );
$ssga->set_page_title( 'Education Level' );
$ssga->send();
$ssga->reset();

Each page view gets tracked as a separate visitor, and the page view count remains at zero. So instead of having a bunch of page views triggered for the pages I have set in the code, I get a number of online visitors. Am I doing something wrong? GA even shows the correct pages in the "Active Pages" tables, but no page views to those pages are registered.

All pageviews get flagged as direct traffic even when they are coming from google

Thank you for this great piece of code - it has saved me a lot of heartache as my PDF's were not being tracked in google analytics.

However, the issue I have, and I hope that can be cleared up, is that when this code is activated, all the traffic is flagged as direct source even when I know if has come from a google search result.

Is there anyway we can fix this?

Thanks in advance.
