I managed to successfully install EB on Piz Daint and reuse GCC 6.4.0 for the SeisSol CK workflow: https://github.com/ctuning/ck-scc18/wiki#installing-some-dependencies-via-easybuild .

However, I would still like to reuse more deps from EB such as OpenMPI, HD5 and NetCDF, but not sure how to install them - help is appreciated!

@gfursin What kind of problems did you run into exactly when trying to install OpenMPI?

Hi @boegel . I guess it's not really related to EB since I had some missing dependencies on Piz Daint:

 eb --module-syntax=Tcl foss-2018a.eb --robot
== temporary log file in case of crash /tmp/eb-tlqSDk/easybuild-uTxDdi.log
== resolving dependencies ...
ERROR: Failed to process easyconfig /scratch/snx3000/user/eb/install/software/EasyBuild/3.7.1/lib/python2.7/site-packages/easybuild_easyconfigs-3.7.1-py2.7.egg/easybuild/easyconfigs/o/OpenMPI/OpenMPI-2.1.2-GCC-6.4.0-2.28.eb: One or more OS dependencies were not found: [('libibverbs-dev', 'libibverbs-devel', 'rdma-core-devel')]

I found documentation on Piz Daint how to use EasyBuild to install Cray-specific toolset and it seems to be working ok.

However, what is a bit surprising is that I managed to build OpenMPI on this machine and use it with SeisSol without any problems via our simple CK script:

$ ck install package --tags=lib,openmpi

So, I guess it's possible to do via EB too without requiring above dependencies?

BTW, I am not trying to obtain the best performance here - we use OpenMPI purely as a simple proof-of-concept of portable CK workflows which can automate execution and validation of programs such as SeisSol during Artifact Evaluation or SCC competitions ...
