We need to decide on how we'll sell tickets (eventbrite? same as last year) and what the pricing structure of that will be.
Then we should make the event and add early bird tickets.
Clicking the link in the website footer leads to : https://csvconf-slackin.herokuapp.com/
In my case, since I've been invited to the slack already, when I enter my email address it redirects me to Slack but it messes up the URL somewhere: https://csvconfslackin.slack.com/
instead of https://csvconf.slack.com/
.
Maintaining the schedule as a CSV is desirable as it allows non-technical users to maintain the schedule in google docs. Currently https://github.com/csvconf/csvconf.com/blob/gh-pages/_data/2020_schedule.csv is a bit of a mashup of HTML embedded in a CSV. Is there any mileage in moving some of the HTML and formatting out into the template layer to make this easier to edit? (and maybe improve the experience for end-users too)
notes for myself - I will do this soon
heres the old one:

anyone wanna take this on?
Building Community We want to bring together data makers/doers/hackers from backgrounds like science, journalism, open government and the wider software industry to share knowledge and stories.
For those who love data csv, conf is a non-profit community conference run by some folks who really love data and sharing knowledge. If you are as passionate about data and the application it has to society as us then you should join us in Berlin!
Big and small This isn't just a conference about spreadsheets. We are curating content about advancing the art of data collaboration, from putting your data on GitHub to producing meaningful insight by running large scale distributed processing on a cluster.
Sponsors.
Once the schedule has been finalized.
Currently the speaker list uses a two-column layout. We hide the speaker photos on mobile, but this layout still requires horizontal scrolling to read on mobile devices. We should collapse into a single-column layout on mobile to make this more accessible for mobile users.
e.g:
before
[photo] | description
speaker name | text
---------------------------
[photo] | description
speaker name | text
...
after
[photo]
speaker name
description text
-----------------
[photo]
speaker name
description text
...
The link in the table is to https://csvconf.com/speakers/#beth-duckles-vicky-steeves
but the only entry in the list of speakers is id="beth-duckles"
So the link is broken, and Vicky Steeves is missing from the Speakers section altogether.
heres the old logo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i0g575vifgth6ru/csvconf-sticker.psd?dl=0
anyone feeling inspired to do a logo update or should we stick with this one?
Hi, I think there is a bug in speaker-talk matching here
https://github.com/csvconf/csvconf.com/blob/gh-pages/_data/2024_speakers.csv#L26
Paula Luvini presents our work Data and State, related issues and not Community driven data interoperability: the case of a local government, a research institution and a small media organization (EN)
The talk will be in EN and not in ES
I am available if you need something else.
Tks!
Hello! I've noticed that there is an issue with the 2023 website where if you use the top row of buttons to navigate between pages (for example, going from "schedule" to "speakers") the relative path added to the URL is redundant and sends the visitor to a nonexistent page. It would be nice to fix this for folks like me who would like to send their managers to the conference site to see what it offers before the approve the expense. Thanks!
In addition to the current site, I propose a page or section of the site which makes it clear how all sorts of people could help and participate. Looking at the current site that seems to be missing!
This comes to my mind because, despite knowing @maxogden and @rgrp both IRL and pinging on Twitter and discussing IRL about doing this year's event, I didn't know this event was actually happening until Annabel was standing in my kitchen and said a meeting had already happened... 😛
e.g. a datapackage.json file.
from netlify I get the error "It looks like this a Jekyll site, but you don't have a Gemfile. Add a Gemfile with Jekyll to make netlify install the right version of Jekyll before running your build."
@danfowler do you know how to create a Gemfile?
Good morning, I looked out for the ticket link, but couldn't find it. Finally I used the browser search for ticket and found the link.
Maybe this is, because I have a small red-green problem, but if others have this problem too, you might want to make the ticket link more prominent. I hope this is the right place for this.
Each session should ideally have an 'add to calendar' link
Is there a way we can have an 'add all sessions to calendar' link?
One approach might be to link out to an external service for this (e.g: I think google calendar can generate a .ics link which can be consumed by any calendar app) @serahrono - do you maintain the sessions in a calendar application, or is the schedule CSV the only place where these are stored?
If they are only in the CSV, maybe we could template out a .ics file in jekyll
Hi all! Can @JuliMillan and myself have writing access to this repo please? Thanks.
@lwinfree @elainewong can you maybe help?
@danfowler feedback here is appreciated, or if you wanna tackle any of the following let me know
Then once we get some more details we can build a good looking website with links to v2 and it's videos as well as details about v3.
There is no mention of conference location on the site.
As part of #20. See: http://csvconf.com/img/csvconf-poster.png
This should be a separate page with this potential layout:
submit your talk proposal
link
In table layout, but apparently that's an impossible table to make with markdown.
Hello! I'm one of the speakers this year and I've learned from someone planning on attending my talk that the colors being used for the website makes the content inaccessible to them.
They have Irlen syndrome and in their case, they cannot read when the text or background are any remotely "warm" color, with yellow being the worst. This link leads to the conversation on Twitter.
For another reference, according to the U.S. Government accessibility guidelines for color and contrast, one guideline reads:
Slightly temper the contrast between your text and background color. For example: don’t use pure black text on a pure white background. Stark contrast can result in blurred or moving text for people with Irlen syndrome.
This said, would it be possible to come into alignment with these guidelines by providing an experience with, for example, an off-white background? Issue #2791 filed in the U.S. Web Design System repo provides some additional context and a great list of resources.
Currently we only have the ability to attach one link to a speaker.
Sometimes a session is presented by two people so they either have to have no link or a link to their project. It would be nice if we could specify an individual link for each speaker (using the existing CSV-based workflow).
If it's not too much work to embed a mailing list for CSV,conf we should do so.
Mailchimp seems like the most straightforward way of doing so.
I just got to know https://csvconf.com/ here for csvconf 2017 happened in this May, some topics from the youtube playlist interested me, just wonder is there a 2018 edition in preparation ? what is the Call For Paper/Participation? and can assume it's in early May again?
We are big fans of schemas here in the data wrangler community. It would be nice if the website provided machine readable metadata according to a widely understood specification, i.e. schema.org/eventSchedule.
Looking at https://csvconf.com, the speaker photos are shown as thumbnails, which is a great design decision. However, the full-sized photo is loaded.
The current photo Sisi Wei is img/speakers-2020/swei.png is 6.9mb at 2976 px by 2976 px.
The website only needs 200px by 200px. Resizing it produces the following, which is 44kb.
The team could produce a name_thumb.ext
file that is 200px by 200px.
May want a dedicated sponsorship section (at the moment interested in speaking has stuff on sponsors but more about supporting travel than how to sponsor).
Should have an email, suggest: [email protected]
