numericalmathematics's Issues

Date updating and package sequence per section

Don't forget to update the date at the top of a Task View when changing or updating the task view through pull requests. Note that is important for differentiating between different versions of the Task View!

Also please note that I have tried, within a section, to put packages near to each other if they have some features or functionalities in common -- and to place important packages higher up within a section. I am afraid this may not be obvious. If you both think it will be more natural to add new packages at the end of a section, we can of course decide to do so.

General task view improvements

Format: We have converted the old XML-based task views file now to the new Markdown-based format. Please check the resulting .md file whether everything is in order or some corrections/improvements are needed. See the corresponding documentation for more details.

Update: This would also be a good time to check the entire task whether it is up to date and correct. A write-up of the general goals and content guidelines is now summarized in the workflow for proposing new task views (which was not yet available when you authored your task view). Improving your task view to conform more closely with these goals and guidelines, if necessary, would be highly appreciated.

Co-maintainers: In particular, we strongly encourage that all task views not only have a principal maintainer but also 1-5 co-maintainers in order to get more inspirations for extensions/improvements and share the maintenance workload. So please try to extend the list of co-maintainers, ideally also including female contributors and generally involving persons with diverse backgrounds.

Package 'ssvd' has been archived on CRAN for more than 60 days

Package ssvd is currently listed in CRAN Task View NumericalMathematics but the package has actually been archived for more than 60 days on CRAN. Often this indicates that the package is currently not sufficiently actively maintained and should be excluded from the task view.

Alternatively, you might also consider reaching out to the authors of the package and encourage (or even help) them to bring the package back to CRAN.

In any case, the situation should be resolved in the next four weeks. If the package does not seem to be brought back to CRAN, please exclude it from the task view.

Core packages for numerical Mathematics

Which package on the task view shall be distinguished as 'core' packages?
At the moment these are the packages

cubature Matrix numDeriv polynomF

Other packages may have about 10 'core' packages. The documentation says

The distinction between "normal" and "core" packages is only important for
the installation of CRAN task views because the user can specify whether
all packages (default) or only the most important core packages should be
installed (with all their dependencies).

Packages suggested by CTVsuggest

I tried out the 'CTVsuggest' package, as requested by Achim Zeileis.
For the NumericalNumerics task view, it suggested the following packages:

CTVsuggest(taskview = "NumericalMathematics", n = 20)

jordan 0.9995356 pbdSLAP 0.9757127
RationalMatrix 0.9987952 vecsets 0.9717508
EigenR 0.9987411 FunWithNumbers 0.9669418
weyl 0.9972708 BLPestimatoR 0.9593805
gmpoly 0.9933795 maotai 0.9571226
Rfractran 0.9926443 mvmesh 0.9518288
qspray 0.9915961 spray 0.9497771
go2bigq 0.9838838 inflection 0.9467829
contFracR 0.9811039 Ryacas0 0.9463418
SparseChol 0.9780122 ecdfHT 0.9338194

I don't want to blow up the task view, but I think we have to check these
packages. For instance, Ryacas and ecdfHT are not right in this context
(Ryacas replaces Ryacas0) , but spray and jordan authored by Robin
and will be appropriate for inclusion.

Can each of us go through this list and propose those packages that
he thinks should be added?

Package 'set6' has been archived on CRAN for more than 60 days

Package set6 is currently listed in CRAN Task View NumericalMathematics but the package has actually been archived for more than 60 days on CRAN.

Package 'chebpol' has been archived on CRAN for more than 60 days

Package chebpol is currently listed in CRAN Task View NumericalMathematics but the package has actually been archived for more than 60 days on CRAN.
