You can have a lateral menu and a scroll at the same time.
Right now it's confusing for new users, because they don't know that the Projects square is a button. So making it more obvious by making it scrollable would be priority 1. And adding the lateral menu would be priority 2.
Add global tab menu to choose: HOME, PROJECTS.
Add a menu at the right, so people who see the portfolio can see that there is another place to go. Because, right now it is not so clear that PROJECTS is a button.
