It worked fine the last one.
I redo all the iTunes app, since my first try was with the Retro 1.1. I
updated all, just to do it clean. At first, when I connected the iPod,
iTunes has a flickering icon, and nothing happens. I do the bash in Full
Disk Access, reopened and worked.
Synching right now!

- While iTunes is open, unplug and plug your iPod nano back in.

tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory
settings":

If this is what you see:
- Make sure you installed iTunes using the latest version of
Retroactive

installed with Retroactive 1.4 or earlier, you need to reinstall iTunes using
the latest version of Retroactive

- Open Finder, click "Go" -> "Go to Folder...", enter "/bin" and click
"Go".
- Locate the "bash" icon.
- Open System Preferences -> "Security & Privacy" -> "Privacy".
- Scroll down the list and locate "Full Disk Access".
- If the list is locked, click on the padlock ("Click the lock to make
changes").
- Drag the "bash" icon from Finder into the "Full Disk Access" list,
and make sure it's checked.
- Quit and re-open iTunes.

Also having problem with iPod classic 5th gen. After installing iTunes 12.9.5.5 onto catalina via retroactive , itunes said it could not connect and needed to restore ipod. I did this (wiping ipod) with some difficulties...wouldnt' work from iTunes itself (unknown error), but did it from Finder. Now i have an empty ipod that STILL won't sync with itunes.

Also--- my finder DOES show the iPod as BOTH USB external drive and the usual iPod finder sync menu (I need to be able to sync from iTunes though)

when i start up itunes with the iPod connected, it says, "The iPod “iPod” is in use by another user on this computer."

Same problem with latest gen iPod nano --- the converted iTunes wants to wipe it clean, and the Finder-based solution in Catalina doesn't handle podcast playlists correctly.

If you see "The iPod is in use by another user on this computer", or nothing happens at all when you plug your iPod into iTunes:
- Disconnect the device from your Mac, but keep iTunes open.
- Click on the Spotlight icon (magnifying glass) on the menu bar.
- Type "Terminal" and press return to open the Terminal app.
- Enter
killall AMPDevicesAgentin the Terminal window, and press return. - Connect the Apple device back to your Mac.
If you see "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings":
- Re-install iTunes using the latest version of Retroactive.
- After re-installing iTunes, Retroactive will ask you about iPod syncing. Click "Enable Full Disk Access", and follow on-screen instructions provided by Retroactive.
If you try to enable VoiceOver for iPod shuffle, but see "iTunes was unable to install the VoiceOver Kit. An unknown error occurred (1701)":
- Directly download the VoiceOver 1.4.2 installer here.
- Install the downloaded VoiceOver.pkg.
- Quit and re-open iTunes.
