colorcop's Issues

Color Cop - portable mode

Until version 5.3 Color Cop was portable- settings were saved inside program folder. Unfortunately later versions are no longer portable.

I would like to suggest an option to run Color Cop in portable mode via a command line switch, for example if Color Cop is started with a parameter:

Color Cop -portable
ColorCop.exe --portable
ColorCop.exe /portable
ColorCop.exe /p

Color Cop is forced to save settings in program folder.

I suppose that a truly portable version of Color Cop would be appreciated not only by me.

Wrong color selected running on Windows 10

Been using CC for many years. Got a new Windows 10 laptop and the eyedropper doesn't pick from the proper location on-screen. It's misaligned somehow. I'm not a developer so it's hard to know what's going on. Happy to do a screenshare to demonstrate.

hexadecimal code not displayed (strange $003CFF61 like value instead)

Hello,
I'm on Windows 10 and have tried with the last installer and a standalone archive with same result. A complete reinstall didn't changed anything.

Before the last weeks, the displayed value was just a normal #010203 'like hexadecimal code.

Thank for this tool anyway ! โค

Cosmetic change suggestions (minor)

The program did what it meant to do, but I recommend some (minor) cosmetic changes to the program's UI.

  • Use a different title bar type. The title of the program is just cut off due to the spacing and the useless inactive Maximize button. I recommend using another different type of a title bar that doesn't include the Maximize button.
  • Fix the cropping of the window. When I click the "Expanded Dialog OFF" button, the window isn't properly cropped off. The recent colors are cropped off, same to the "Zoom" canvas and the "+" button.
  • Add dark mode. Sorry, I like dark mode :/

That's all.. I might add more but for now, that's all.

Color Cop Help file

@j4y

The Color Cop help file is in the outdated *.hlp format. I converted the help file using an online converter to the *.html format. However, that messed up the formatting. So, I took the liberty of re-creating the help file (using the converted file) as best as I could in the *.docx and subsequent *.pdf formats.

Thank you for a great application.

Suggestion: Install via Chocolately support

I've come to really like the ease with which I can install software with Chocolately and I really like Color Cop too! However, the version that is currently available seems to have not been approved and is approaching 3 years old (according to the timestamp).

Could that be updated with a current version and approved via the chocolately maintainers?

Screen sampling location off when custom resolution is used

Just downloaded and tried out the beta version of color cop. It works, but when I try to sample or use the magnifier on my screen, I have to position the tool far from where I actually want to sample. I am on Windows 10 and have my monitor resolution set to 150%, which I think is causing the issue.

Suggested change

I suggest that instead of (or in addition to) having a separate eyedropper and magnifier, you merge them together. Have just a magnifier, but show the color of the center pixel (provide some way to zoom in while the magnifier is being displayed, and surround the center pixel with a border). Instead of only displaying the eyedropper or magnifier while the mouse button is held down, make a small transparent window that can stay on the screen. Allow this window to be dragged with the mouse or moved with the keyboard, and the same for its size and zoom factor. Shouldn't be difficult to program. Then you will be almost as good as Meazure already is.

Color value conversion RGB to HSL

Hi there,

This is not a bug.

I am using this tool for almost last 7 years. big thanks for your contribution.

How are you converting rbg to hsl or other way?
color

Yours does not match with following calculator
RGB2HSL

Sorry. Its very hard for me to following this on the code.

Doesn't work at all with windows 10 text size is not 100% (screenshot attached)

Hi,

I have a Surface Book which comes with a high resolution screen, which requires to set the size to 200% to really enjoy that screen. It is the default setting when you buy the laptop.

However, colorcop doesn't work at all with this setting, it acts as if the screen was in 100% size, and so everything it "sees" is actually at a different location than where you point.

No way to ever select any color anymore.

Inaccurate values with customized display

Hi, I just wanted to report that it seems if you customize your computer's display (specifically I had to raise my gamma a bit), CC starts giving inaccurate values.

Request: HSV values

It would be nice to have hue, value, and saturation values. I am an artist, and it would be very convenient to have it in this tool!
Most art programs output HSV values as Hue: 0-360, Saturation: 0-100, and Value: 0-100

Unmerged and different license file compared to website

Hello,

I noticed that the repo license file for the installer has unmerged changes:
https://github.com/ColorCop/ColorCop/blob/master/packaging/license.txt

Also the license on the website and the repo differ :
http://colorcop.net/license/

Btw I noticed that there are some custom changes in the license on the website (based on the MIT License).
Would it be possible to move to a default opensource license instead of a restricted custom one?
https://opensource.org/licenses

Thanks :)
