@golsch XML is a broadly deployed text markup language for technical documents, and is used for a large number of the metadata standards and documents that are used today (e.g., ISO 19115, EML, etc.). CodeMeta has evolved somewhat since its first inception. At that time, we were imagining that CodeMeta would primarily focus on crosswalking metadata dialects from broad research communities that use two file formats, JSON and XML. That said, CodeMeta has shifted to focus on being an exchange format based on schema.org that various standards can be mapped onto, and so we have focused on using JSON-LD as the primary serialization format for that.
