Move domain from Godaddy to somewhere sane

We should create a Code Island owned account with a reputable registrar and move the code-island.org domain (and any others) to it.

Suggestions:
dnsimple.com
pairnic.com
hover.com

Preferably two.

Regular Updates for Members Page

As we are pulling in new people on a regular basis, we might want to make it a regular function of each meetup to run the members script and push it to the site.

Let's Do This!

I'm pretty satisfied with where the site is right now. We're populated in all the crucial areas, and we have three posts in the blog, with more on the way. So I'd really like us to throw the switch. Please give this a click-thru and reply with any last pre-launch items.

When we do...a lot of the links will break because they're to codeisland.github.io not code-island.org.

Let's do this sooner than later, so there will be fewer links to fix.

Question: where are the candidates questionnaire pages? Let's reconstruct at least the responses within the new site.

New Code Island Site Goals

We need to create a new home for Code Island. Following up on this conversation:
codeisland/candidate-questionnaire#1 and
codeisland/Code-Island-Admin#1

There are three major needs from our site:

  • Hub for our contact and event information
  • Blog for our updates
  • Home for projects and information about projects

In order to implement the features from other brigades such as project managers we are going to need more flexibility than our current Strikingly site our a Wordpress blog template. GitHub Pages in conjunction with Jekyll I think will give us the flexibility we need along with pairing well with project sites.

Immediate Next Steps

  • We need a design /wire-frame. (Lets build off the modern scrolly story feel of our currently Stikingly)
  • Blog posts. We need to test out the process for creating and publishing a post with new process.
  • Organize around specific tasks/ issues.

Picking up the CSS

The index page picks up some fonts and the text is constrained and centered. The about page just picks up the fonts. The projects page is 100% default.

Please give me some simple instructions to connect the pages to the CSS.

'Hanx!

DNS issue?

code-island.org seems broken this morning. Did we screw up the DNS adjustment somehow? @joealba got a second to look? Did I bork the CNAME thing again?

Blog needs to be seeded

There is a top-level nav to the blog. Posts are still shown on home page for now.

posts still go in '_posts'

I can add a '_drafts' folder for work in progress, but I think you can move ahead unimpeded for now.
