This repository is the home of the CDDO Cloud Maturity Model and Assessment Tool

The project is currently in an alpha phase, contributions are very welcome.

The intend of the maturity model tool and report is to provide targeted actionable guidance.

The questions are structured with (generally) 5 potential answers that are intended to range from the worst it could be, to the best it could be, with a distributed spread between that.

The answers are framed as attestations you should be able to make based on your current state, scoring 'low' is not necessarily a 'bad thing' in fact scoring too 'high' might in fact indicate over optimization and a disproportionate solution.

For example having a highly resilient and secure solution for the passport validating service makes sense, however would be disproportionate for the canteen menu.

Likewise there is little value creating robust privileged access processes that require management sign off to exercise if you're a small parish council with only one person qualified to manage the small IT infrastructure footprint.

The report in response to the attestations is structured firstly as helping the reader understand if the current state is good enough, and if not provide very explicit and targeted guidance on how to work towards the next attestation.

What it isn't

Its important to clarify what this is not, this is not intended to be a assurance tool, or for results to be collected, it is first and foremost a tool to help provide targeted explicit guidance that will help organizations recognize where they are, what risks they're operating with, and specifically how to improve their position.

Contributions / ❤️ Pull Requests

The repository is configured with dev containers so should be able to use Github Codespaces or your preferred compatible editor.

You will find all the questions and guidance in ./src/assessment.

cloudmaturity's Issues

Self-Deployment Support and Guidance

Assumption is that eventually this will be deployed to GitHub Pages or similar. Not sure that everyone on GitHub looking to use this will want to enter data about their companies on a public site. Some probably want to deploy their own instance.

Pathway for Contributing

@chrisns I love that you're building this - will be so useful for facilitating cloud migration conversations!

Not sure of where you want to take this in the long run, but I imagine there are some things that you / core team might want to steer (e.g. questions to ask, centrally-agreed framework for migration, etc) but there may be some issues that others in the community can help with (UI components, bugfixes, case-studies / contact deets for improvements in each section).

Some suggestions:

  • contributing.md guidance
  • contributor-friendly issues
  • vision
  • roadmap
  • perhaps a CDDO github project

Essentially a way to know the intent, and contribute to the direction.

Tracking of Progress over Time

As a: technology leader
I want: some way to track what has changed with cloud maturity over time
So that: I can easily see where we are progressing well, and where we aren't

At the moment, this tool provides a snapshot of cloud maturity at any given time, but there is no way to store that and compare against future results. May be as simple as a spreadsheet export, Just curious on your thoughts on how to track this!
