Avoid putting code in the readme as it may go out of state with the actual code. You can link to reference a file path instead.

consider using a query string for search/filter
Instead of the /pets/name/:name consider using /pets?name=Theo, /pets?name=Theo&type=dog. This allows you to filter your output while still using a restful endpoint.
Also, watch out for spaces in your path! What happens if I request e.g. "/pets/name/Theo Tsangaris"?
