What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. install simbl 0.8.2 on Leopard 10.5.8
2. restart - no folder in application support
3. install simbl 0.9.7
4. restart - no folder in application support
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
From the install guide, I'd expect simbl to have created a SIMBL folder in
application support. This hasn't happened.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Both available now, on 10.5.8
Please provide any additional information below.
I'm going to try creating those folders now to see if plugins work anyway,
will update.

I've run into some issues with SIMBL 0.9.3b, which seems to be related to my
habit of installing
different versions of the same application using "unexpected" names.
The situation: I have two versions of the MythFrontend application, one called
"MythFrontend.app" and another one called "MythFrontend 0.21-fixes.app"
(unrelated: these are
the frontend applications for the MythTV PVR software).
When I start the "0.21-fixes" version, *both* versions start up. If I remove
the
"MythFrontend.app" and start the "0.21-fixes" version, I get a popup (from the
AppleScript
'backend' system?) asking me where the "MythFrontend" application is located.
Both apps have the same CFBundleName ("MythFrontend").
Not sure who's to blame here :-)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Launch a given app that normally has a menubar and appears in Dock. Verify
SIMBL loads
correctly.
2. Change app's info.plist file to add LSUIElement with BOOL of YES
3. Relaunch app. SIMBL no longer loads.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I suspect that the Aqua context restriction in the SIMBL launchagent is the
culprit here. There are
many apps that run without a normal GUI but that would benefit from SIMBL
injection. I noticed this
because when running my bundle as an InputManager for 32-bit apps on Snow
Leopard, it loads in
LSUI Element apps (e.g., Edgies, Quicksilver, Sticky Notes...), but when they
load my bundle through
SIMBL, it no longer loads.

Hi,
there's a memory leak - try running Instruments on any app that will load a
SIMBL plugin - you get
memory leaks from SIMBL. The problem is that the SIMBLPlugin class doesn't have
a -dealloc method
releasing the path and info objects.
Here's a backtrace in one of my apps:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Uninstall SIMBL and stop SIMBL agent.
2. Install SIMBL 0.9.7 package from terminal like "sudo installer -pkg
SIMBL-0.9.7.pkg -target /"
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
SIMBL Agent should be started as the current user, but instead it is started as
root, so it won't
work as expected.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.9.7, OSX 1.6
Please provide any additional information below.
The installer command (/usr/sbin/installer) is needed to install a pkg silently
(unattended). The
command has to be run via sudo because the pkg requires admin rights (if you
try to run it
without sudo you will get "installer: This package requires authentication to
install.").
However, this means that the postflight script of the pkg will be executed with
$USER = root,
which means the SIMBL agent will be loaded as root.
It may be possible to pass a command line parameter to the postflight script
when running the
installer command, and use this parameter instead of $USER when loading the
SIMBL agent.

I am the author of MenuBarHider (http://github.com/Crazor/MenuBarHider).
This plugin simly issues SetSystemUIMode() to hide the menu bar. Since this has
to be done for every app, I have the following code to the info.plist:
<key>SIMBLTargetApplications</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>BundleIdentifier</key>
<string>*</string>
</dict>
</array>
This works good, but users reported that Eclipse 32 and 64 bit crash on load. I
tracked the crash down to the following error:
warning: Could not find object file
"/Users/mike/Projects/simbl/build/SIMBL.build/Deployment/SIMBL.build/Objects-nor
mal/i386/NSAlert_SIMBL.o" - no debug information available for

So either SIMBL tries to warn be about a version mismatch
(http://code.google.com/p/simbl/source/browse/src/SIMBL.m#247, which I don't
suppose, since I don't specify any versions) or an error happens when loading
the bundle (http://code.google.com/p/simbl/source/browse/src/SIMBL.m#277).
Anyway, the error sheet can't be shown for some reason.
The issue on our side is https://github.com/Crazor/MenuBarHider/issues#issue/3

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. use the safari extension 'safaristand' with site-specific modifications (eg
large font size for
google.com)
2. open the site requiring modification *as the first page* in safari.app
3. open another tab/window in safari and do something else - then come back to
the first tab
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expect the site modification settings to hold in the first tab. more often than
not, the
modification settings vanish for the displayed page. this happens *only* for
the first tab.
[Note: extensions take some time to load after safari starts -- so you
sometimes need to open
safari and wait to see the safaristand menu before you load the relevant site]
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.9.7a on 10.6.2. I have a core duo laptop (32 bit).
Please provide any additional information below.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start Safari, navigate to a youtube page
2. Load a you tube flash video
3. check activity monitor; you will notice a separate process named 'Flash
Player (Safari Internet
Plugin)
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Inspecting that process, you should see SIMBL loaded in the open files (you do
under 32 bit
Safari). But it is not there, and consequently, my SIMBL plugin is not here
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
SIMBL 0.9.7, Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.1
Please provide any additional information below.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have a somewhat unusual login shell such as es or rc.
2. Run the SIMBL-0.9.9 installer
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Successful installation. Actual: A message that installation failed.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Version 0.9.9 on macosx 10.6.7. My shell is es.
Please provide any additional information below.
Here are some relevant lines from the log:
./postinstall: Stop SIMBL Agent
./postinstall: su -l hanche -c /bin/launchctl unload -F -S Aqua
"/Library/ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax/Contents/Resources/SIMBL
Agent.app/Contents/Resources/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist"
./postinstall: Warning: No math in this shell
./postinstall: launchctl: Couldn't
stat(""/Library/ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax/Contents/Resources/SIMBL"): No
such file or directory
./postinstall: launchctl: Couldn't
stat("Agent.app/Contents/Resources/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist""): No such
file or directory
The immediate problem is that my login shell (es) does not recognise the double
quote as something special, so it ends up running the equivalent of
/bin/launchctl unload -F -S Aqua
'"/Library/ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax/Contents/Resources/SIMBL'
'Agent.app/Contents/Resources/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist"', and of course
launchctl has some difficulties finding a file named
“"/Library/ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax/Contents/Resources/SIMBL” (initial
double quote included).

1. Install SIMBL-0.9.5b.pkg.
2. Install a 64-bit plugin.
3. Reload 64-bit application and behold the plugin isn't loaded.
The plugin should load. SIMBL Agent should print stuff to the console. SIMBL
Agent should be listed in
Activity Monitor. SIMBL Agent should show up if I do "launchctl list | grep -i
simbl". None of that happens.
This is on 10.6.1 on an x86_64 machine.
I also noted that the uninstaller complained:
9/12/09 7:46:38 PM [0x0-0x24a24a].net.culater.SIMBLUninstaller[8196] launchctl:
Error unloading:
net.culater.SIMBL.Agent
After inspecting the postflight script, I ran "launchctl load -F -S Aqua ..."
and all became well.

1. Creating a SIMBL plugin, to be loaded into HelpViewer.app
The plugin is never loaded.
If i change the plugins' plist "SIMBLTargetApplications"-key so that it loads
in any application, i can
confirm that the plugin loads fine, just not in HelpViewer.app.
If i set HelpViewers' bundle-dictionarykey "LSUIElement" to false, it DOES load.
Is 'to not load if LSUIElement=1' intended behaviour?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Restart the system, with a SIMBL plugin enabled that is supposed to be
injected into Finder
2. The SIMBL plugin is *not* injected into Finder
3. Restart Finder, and the plugin is then injected
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect SIMBL to inject itself into all running applications on the initial
boot.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest version, 0.9.6c, on Snow Leopard.
I think SIMBL agent only seems to recognise newly launched applications after
it has been
started. Is there anyway to either:
a) Start SIMBL Agent before Finder
or
b) Make it realise there are applications which have not yet been injected on
start up, and inject
plugins into them.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start mac osx mail app
2. sort e.g. the inbox with the latest mails at the bottom
3. change to view any other mailbox (e.g. "sent") and then back to the inbox
again
4. PROBLEM: the view has changed now to latest mail at the top, (you can change
the order by clicking on the header of the "date" column but it will always
switch back to newest mail on top when "coming" from another mailbox
5. uninstalling SIMBL eliminates the problem
