It looks like you're using the Doom 1.2 shareware IWAD. Chocolate Doom only works with Doom 1.9 IWADs. You can get the 1.9 shareware IWAD here: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=7043

OK, thanks, shareware DOOM now works. But I think that trying to use unsupported WAD's should cause an error message, not a core dump.

Yeah, you're probably right. It causes a core dump because there's a generic function (I_Error) used for bombing out of the game when an error occurs. For some of these, it can be helpful for debugging purposes to dump the core in order to find out what went wrong. Of course, for other errors, it's not helpful at all (as in this case) :-)

Considering the error output is sent to a file on Windows I should probably pop up a message box displaying the error; otherwise people may be confused.

Okay , I've modified I_Error to exit normally and not core dump. On Windows, a message box should appear with the error message in, so that people can tell what happened.
