Jenkins Plugin Template

Project: testExample Jenkins Version: >= 1.62

This is a Jenkins Post-build Plugin repository created for https://developer.rackspace.com/blog/jenkins-post-build-plugin-part-1/ and further extended for https://developer.rackspace.com/blog/jenkins-post-build-plugin-part-2/ .

Additional Information

The testExample project showcases how to write a plugin for the "Post-Build Action" process in Jenkins - specifically, the Publisher type of pluin.

There are a myriad number of write-ups (both in print and on-line) for writing new "Build" plugins for Jenkins but few resources explaining how to write "Publisher"-type plugins used in the "Post-Build" phase of Jenkins Continuous Integration (CI). This source code goes hand-in hand with the two URLs at the top of this README file.

That being said there are a number of issues with this particular source-tree - chiefly: some of the methods invoked in the project have been deprecated. This fork aims to clean that up and push back to Pritic's repo.

Issues

Netbeans

In Netbeans, an issue may arise where the pom.xml cannot be opened thus preventing the hpi/jar from being built.

To resolve:

  1. From the 'Projects' tab, right-click on the project's name (testExample).
  2. Mouse over 'Set Configuration'
  3. When the context window expands, click 'Jenkins' from the selection.
    1. This will load the pom.xml file, read the entries, and (upon clicking 'Set Configutation' again) will show more options in the context window.

Tomcat 8 && Jenkins 2.0 && WAR files

Jenkins 2.0 was released 2016-04-20 as a war file; the file itself is greater than 50MB. Apache Tomcat's default maximum file upload size is 50MB; this requires that the user update Tomcat's file size maximum value. Edit:

%APACHE_HOME/webapps/manager/WEB-INF/web.xml

Change the following:

        <multipart-config>
            <!-- 50MB max -->
            <max-file-size>52428800</max-file-size>
            <max-request-size>52428800</max-request-size>
            <file-size-threshold>0</file-size-threshold>
        </multipart-config>

to:

    <multipart-config>
        <!-- 150MB max -->
        <max-file-size>152428800</max-file-size>
        <max-request-size>152428800</max-request-size>
        <file-size-threshold>0</file-size-threshold>
    </multipart-config>

This increases the maximum filesize to ~150MB and allows larger WAR files to be uploaded. Choose whatever maximum file size you wish or is relevant for your organization. 150MB is quite large.
