If it is convenient for the community we support kubernetes but as you said not the main objective of the project.
I just opened an issue #47 for you to put in because we should include it

@Shaggy84675 Based in which guidance you are trying to do deployment?

Basically nothing special.
Installed BurmillaOS with command:
sudo ros install -c https://link/to/cloud-config.yml -d /dev/sda
After successful installation I used the command from get started Rancher page:
sudo docker run --privileged -d --restart=unless-stopped -p 80:80 -p 443:443 rancher/rancher
but I also tried
docker run -d --restart=unless-stopped -p 9090:80 -p 9091:443 --privileged -v /opt/rancher:/var/lib/rancher --name=rancher_docker_server rancher/rancher:latest
When adding custom cluster, just inserted a name and ticked all three roles.

Ahaa you mean Rancher 2.5.x.
For that I think that is better migrate some of the supported OS versions https://rancher.com/support-maintenance-terms/#2.5.x
Which I also recommend for all Kubernetes users also for other reasons discussed on #22
Rancher have removed "RancherOS" from 2.5.x supported list so it might be that they have also changed something which why these are not compatible anymore.
PS. I didn't mean to close this yet but writing with phone and clicked from button.
from os.
Ahh gotchu. Will Burmilla support 2.5.x? Maybe it'd be nice to mention it somewhere that's not compatible.
from os.
Most probably no as then we would directly compete with k3OS which is not purpose of this project.
Of course if someone is able to find why it does not work then we might fix it but we cannot promise that BurmillaOS will stay compatible with Rancher.
Documention definitely need to be improved but that is waiting that we are able agree scope for this project (mostly will we support Kubernetes at all or not).
from os.
Aight. Thank you for the response. I was just curious, still pretty new in this area, so I don't have any use cases why I would need you to support it now. But RancherOS was lightweight system what was good to use with Rancher so I thought you will support the latest versions of Rancher as well in the future. Anyway, everything explained, thank you again!

Yea it is bit sad that Rancher Labs have not officically announced their reasons behind of depreciating RancherOS so we can only guess.
But IMO it looks quite clear that their plan is replace those use cases with k3OS as it is even more optimized for that use case than RancherOS ever was.
