Since the scripts are intended to "bootstrap" an environment, it doesn't make sense to add complex logic around installing "optional" software (this also complicates interactive vs. non-interactive installs).

A simpler approach would be to create simple "install" scripts that can be run after bootstrapping, that can make use of the same bootstrap script fragments.
