Another better - but still odd - workaround is to change the line to

dbReq = indexedDB.open(dbName, parseInt(dbVersion) || 1);

This works for me on IE TP (Edge) on Windows 10, untested on IE 11.

There seems to be something odd about IE's interpretation of the type. typeof dbVersion returns "number" and yet wrapping in parseInt seems to do some magic to really make it a number.
