This process can be improved by setting use_cftime=True (which reads in the time coordinate as cftime). Hence the preprocessing function could use that coordinate from the first timestep for init (probably shift half lead to the exact initialization date), and then rename time to lead and make lead from integers.

I didnt have that problem, because the data downloaded from IRI comes already concatinated. another interesting question is how the netcdf files are stored on IRI?

What are the best practices to acknowledge @bradyrx and @aaronspring (and contributors work like Abby) work for
a) e.g. using climpred to make a figure for a paper
b) all the S2S development eventually leading to the ASP summer tutorial.
Will latter be a separate repo or linked to climpred? Shall we create a doi for a possible S2S repo that others can cite? Is there an update on your climpred manuscript (would be good to cite for a) ). Maybe ask for citation on main page of climpred in more prominent place.
