anki-fonts's Introduction

This is a set of flashcards for the popular open-source spaced repetition software Anki, which will teach you to identify the most popular typefaces. It showcases over 45 fonts, each with a short history and a list of defining characteristics.

The basis for these flashcards is the now-defunct FontSpotting deck developed by Dustin de Souza and Jessica Witt. The content is used with their kind permission.

Installation

You can download the current release from AnkiWeb. Then, in Anki, use File -> Import and select the .apkg file.

Contributing

If you find a mistake, or have other ideas on how to improve the deck, please don't hesitate to open a new issue!

This deck is maintained using the CrowdAnki add-on. If you want to contribute corrections or improvements yourself, follow these steps:

  1. Make changes to the deck.
  2. Install the CrowdAnki add-on.
  3. Fork and clone this repository.
  4. Use Export -> CrowdAnki Json representation on the deck and chose the repository's base directory.
  5. Commit the changes, and submit a pull request to this repository.

This deck is released under the conditions of the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, with credits to Dustin de Souza, Jessica Witt, and Sebastian Morr. All fonts remain the property of their respective type foundries/designers/owners.
