3057mainst's Introduction

I'd like to use this space to encourage you to keep a repo of your dwelling(s). Keep diagrams, project quotes, garden plans, home repairs, and other related items that you and future owners can use, learn and measure from. File issues. Use Project kanbans to manage projects. Encourage Your family to join in.

Buildings do indeed learn.

It feels dumb at first. You wont feel encouraged whatsoever, but as the years pass it becomes precious. You gain a stronger understanding of how time plays out in a way I have yet to experience elsewhere.

3057mainst's Issues

Knock out entrance closet to expand size of living room

Our primary front door leads into a closet. So. I'd like to knock it out and use the space as part of the living room. It should be made to feel like an entrance but work with the rest of the [living] room.

  • The closet has a lower ceiling than the living room. Why? (Is this where the squirrels hang out?)
  • There is electricity ran in the main wall to be knocked down.
  • Flooring (wood) pattern may be disrupted
  • We'll need an entrance light fixture

Create a garden in the backyard

We have lots of space in the backyard and there is a particular area that gets a lot of sunlight.

  • Plot out and till garden space
  • Measure out and get t-post fencing
  • Prep, plant, schedule plantings

Get upstairs toilet working again

Benett flushed the toilet and heard a big 'thunk' sound after which we noticed the sewage stack leaking on the basement stairs. I cut open the wall around where we found leaking, but it seems further up. The idea now is to pull the toilet off it's base and see if the piping slipped off around where the toilet is connected--this seems possible as Benett said he definitely heard a loud bang. If there is nothing obvious here, the leaking may be further down, somewhere between both ends. In which case, that means we need to rip up the kitchen ceiling.

  1. Drain toilet
  2. Unmount toilet
  3. Examine piping
  4. Hopefully spot the problem
  5. ...
  6. Put toilet back in place

Open up new entrance to first floor bathroom

I already relocated the toilet so that we can knock a wall out, restoring the original floor plan of having an entrance go up into the bathroom.

  • Crop off sewage line
  • Break down wall
  • Repair/replace(?) steps
  • Regrout affected bathroom tiles

Two new front doors

The primary(?) door has been sealed shut since we bought the house. It current goes into a closet (which we plan to knock out at some point). We'd like to put it back in service and to do so, we'll need a new door. There is already a storm door in-place, but the inner main door is just a hollow interior closet door.

We mine as well swap out the secondary front door's inner door to match the other. It too is hollow. Both are ugly.

  • White oak or Quarter sawn
  • Beveled, clear glass
  • Smart lock? incl. dead bolt, on each?

  • Shop for new hardware

Refinish wood floors

We have some nice, old growth pine floors. They've taken a beating but appears we can get a sanding out of them.

Need to find a flooring person or consider DIY. I've hear DIY is tough in this area.
